I'm bringing 20+ years of animal shelter volunteering and ownership to a dream job working with dogs and all pets! I typically work full-time remotely in social media, but I'm laid off work.

I'm a believer in positive reinforcement and using Fear Free accredited professionals. I'm passionate about starting starting every animal relationship with compassionate leadership as we grow together. I'm also very passionate about animal rescue and currently own a 4 yo Shih Tzu puppy mill rescue, so I understand the roller coaster of shelter and senior dogs. I have a place in my heart for senior dogs since I've had 6 dogs through their end of life. I maintain a calm and collected, but very loving relationship with all the dogs I meet! I always do slow, leashed, neutral territory introductions with dogs. I know the signs of a dog or cat who needs space or other tensions, and how to de-escalate situations. Redirecting with treats/toys/attention is a key tool for me to keep all dogs safe, and I understand cats' temperments to help them feel safer with someone new. Your dog will always be flat leashed with me outside of the home, as well as buckled or crated in the back if transported by car. If you'd like me to work with your dogs on leash walking or commands, let me know during our meet & greet.

We own a 4yo Shih Tzu who is a puppy mill rescue and on her way to being a happy loved girl who is learning to trust other people and dogs to not harm her. We will slow introductions with her, but she warms up quickly when we are by her to encourage her. Our cat Rumi is a chatty friend calico girl we just adopted in January. I adore getting to know her personality!
A typical day
Dogs need enrichment and exercise to be happy, and I know many ways to engage their minds and noses. Sniffaris and trails are my favorite daily go to's, but I'm filled with ideas for mental stimulation from frozen kongs to toilet paper roll treat logs to dispensers, these are great tools for your high energy or high anxiety dogs. Regular feeding times, walk time, potty breaks and bed times are important to dog routines, so I will do my best to keep that consistency for them. I'm happy to do what they know best or set up a fun game for the dog to play if they need more enrichment after I leave.

Pet care experience
You won’t find anyone who loves dogs and cats more than me! I’ve had pets my entire life and been an active volunteer at animal shelters in Detroit and Charlotte for over 20 years. I currently volunteer weekly with Humane Society Charlotte and have been trained by their dog trainer and staff in dog training, dog walking, shelter enrichment and intake admin, and I'm certified as a Fear Free Shelter Animal caretaker and pet CPR. I also walk the dogs at the Char-Mack Animal Care & Control shelter. I love any breed or size and have experience handling all energy, affection, size and temperament levels. I'm skilled in walking multiple dogs, training them on basic commands and leash walking from a lifetime of doing it! *If your dog needs walking out of your apartment to another floor, please book dogwalking.
