A typical day

Here's where we'll take our walks Probably on the streets around our neighborhood. Would be worried to take to park and perhaps encounter aggressive dogs, loose dogs or unhealthy dogs. But if owner prefers they be walked in parks then we can do that as well. I find that whenever sitting for pets or children you need to be more cautious than perhaps even the parents or owners because they are not your children or pets and you are completely responsible for their well being. There is nothing worse than someone or something getting injured or sick on your watch. Your dog's sleeping arrangement Probably in a owner provided doggie bed or crate. Placed where they would most feel comfortable. Or on our covered couch. Our sole interest is to make them feel at home to reduce stress of being away from home. I DO expect owner to provide all food, treats and meds as they deem appropriate. I can not supply food as everyone's requirements are different. When allowed and available will give them goodies (healthy), but owner must supply adequate amount of food and treats for all their pets for the duration of the stay. Time I'll spend with your dog As much as it needs, we incorporate our dog in everything we do. If they are tired or moody then we don't bother them with a bunch of activity. But if they want attention and want to be active then we will engage them. Up to the dog, really. Unless the owner has special instructions then we will follow that. I don't like to walk them late at night as I have heard ( never saw or experienced it myself) that there are occasionally coyotes and loose dogs. Don't want to endanger your dog or myself. Also my rates are based on 24 hour periods. So if it is a 1 day stay I do expect pick up 24 hours from the time the owner drops off. There is some small leniency but if it is several hours later you may be charged for an extra day. So please be considerate of that.

I am an animal lover!

Pet care experience

I'm a big animal welfare advocate. Hope to get into rescuing/fostering eventually. Many years ago studied towards becoming a veterinarian but could not complete due to $$. My husband, while in the army, was in the canine corp. where he took care of and trained several dogs. So we both have experience and knowledge in what it takes to properly care for dog/s. We recognize that they are feeling and thinking beings and should be treated like members of the family. Your pets will be properly and affectionately taken care of. I have a large 2 story home and am able to separate dogs if needed, that is why there is a limit how many I would accept at the same time. I have also agreed to take on multiple clients at the same time. Although this may be rare, you should know it is possible that I will have other pups here during your pet's stay. We try and provide a family home environment for all. Each stay please remember to bring toys, beds/crates to make your pet feel at home and adequate pet food for duration of stay. We provide healthy treats if allowed by owner. Why I love dog sitting Since I was a kid, I have pretty much always had dogs and a few times cats. In elementary school I was assigned to maintain our small farm (2 goats, 1 pig, several chickens and a few ducks). During Jr. High and High school took ROTC programs for animal health & safety & Vet assisting. Community College enrolled in Animal Health Technology 1.5 yrs., incomplete. Since 1988 owned 4 dogs. 1st dog had 8 yrs., died age 8. 2nd dog had 7 yrs., died at age 14. 3rd dog had 10 yrs., died age 13. Current dog got 5/2014 at age 8 & is doing great! Same with cats, most of them were close to 20 yrs. of age when they passed. My family has always had dogs and cats, so I grew up with them. Love them like people! Meet my pets 1 small dog and daughter's cat About my yard I have a large chain linked fenced back yard. All grass except for patio that is brick and elevated from the yard. Have a tool shed/greenhouse in far left corner. Don't know measurements, but it is large. Some flat areas and some hilly areas. I have 4 small to medium sized fruit trees, raised vegetable/flower gardens. Very safe! Would not leave them out over night in case a raccoon or possum comes by. Never saw any coyotes in my yard. But don't like to leave them out at night. But they can have access to go to the bathroom through pet door. My experience administering medication Yes and would like to see how owner administers it. PLEASE NOTE: When sending me a stay request please be polite and advise me of your final plans within a few days of your original request. It is Rover's policy that if a request isn't booked or archived within 72 hours my calendar may show as unavailable for that time period your request is for. I would show as unavailable to other clients. So, please let me know as soon as possible of your plans after you have sent me a request. Thank you! Also please fully complete your dog's profile! We heavily count on that information. Also please select the services you need carefully. Too many clients are selecting the wrong services and overcharging themselves. It's not easy correcting the fee schedule. I run into this often.

Judith was great. She and her husband really care for dogs and it shows with how they cared for our dog. She provided daily updates on how our dog was acclimating to her new environment and with the other dogs in her care. The large backyard and doggie door were a huge plus since we knew our little girl loves to go outside a lot and run. We won’t hesitate to book again.

My Penny had a great time in her stay. They have a backyard and the dogs can go outside at any time from the dog door, my dog was not trained but she learned pretty fast and from there it seems like she was always outside enjoying the space. There were other dogs staying at the same time and penny was nervous at first but she warmed up after a few minutes and they became friends, right after we got home she went directly to sleep since she was probably exhausted from all the play and socializing. Overall it was a good experience, Judith would give updates every now and then and Penny was doing good and spending time with the other dogs, but especially spending time outside.

Judy had great communication with our throughout our dog’s stay and made sure to give him extra attention and snuggles while he was there. They have a good backyard for the dogs to play but I think Chaplin could have benefited from walks. Though Judy did share, at a meet-and-great, that they would not provide walks.

Peaches stayed with Judith and her husband for the week of Christmas and it was a mixed bag experience. They provided her with home cooked food that's good for dogs which was very kind of them to do. There was a few other dogs staying during the same time so Peaches had lots of friends to play and socialize with which was great to have in their big home and backyard. There were a few things that I wanted to point out that weren't great though. My dog has never used a doggy door before so she needed time and training to get used it to, but she could've used more guidance from them to figure it out, especially when it came to using the bathroom. She had a few accidents during her stay and I was charged a $75 dollar cleaning fee on the basis that she "wasn't potty trained". Which almost feels like a scam and excuse for them to be lazy and not have to walk any of these dogs. She has had 0 issues at my own home and with other sitters in the year that I've had her and to say that it was intentional or because I didn't train her was rude and offensive. She needed to get used to the space and be given regular times to use the bathroom which I explained to them and they still insisted that it was her fault and that she was “pestering” them when trying to signal. On the day I picked her up I noticed her signal and sit by the back door waiting to be let out 4 separate times in the 30 minutes I was there, very clearly showing that she attempted to go outside but was ignored. Also if your dog is crate trained, be expected to throw that training out the window because they don’t believe in that, and insisted that we not bring her crate with her. Another thing, on the day I picked her up the husband was sitting in the living room smoking multiple cigarettes while there were a few people's dogs around and when I arrived home my dog smelled strongly of cigarettes as well. They're a nice couple and I get that it's their space and they can set certain rules, but their expectations for what a dog should do and be around are not realistic for a dog sitter welcoming new dogs into their home. I just wanted to share my experience, give them a chance if you're okay with how they choose to run their home but please understand they will not change how they act to accommodate your pet.
