Pet care experience

Pet lover with lots of experience

What sets me apart from other sitters is the real-world experience I bring from living and working with dogs every day. I’ve raised and trained a variety of breeds, including high-drive working dogs like Dobermans and a Donovan Pinscher, and I currently share my home with three dogs and a cat. My dogs are actively involved in dog sports. Giving me a strong foundation in obedience, structure, and engagement. I understand how to meet each dog where they are—whether it’s a playful puppy needing boundaries or a senior dog requiring calm, attentive care. I take a thoughtful, balanced approach with every dog I care for, focusing on clear communication, calm energy, and consistency. My experience allows me to confidently handle dogs with different needs and personalities, and I always prioritize their safety, comfort, and emotional well-being. Whether you’re looking for someone to reinforce good habits, provide mental stimulation, or simply give your pet a safe, peaceful break from home, I offer more than basic care—I bring a lifestyle built around respect, trust, and a genuine love for animals.

I’ve known Joy for 10 years, and she truly has a heart of gold. As a huge animal lover, I’m very particular about who I trust with my dogs — and without a doubt, Joy is the first person I would turn to. I know she would care for them as if they were her own, and that peace of mind is priceless.

I’ve known Joy for over 10 years, and she’s always been one of the most dedicated and thoughtful dog owners I’ve ever met. She’s raised happy, well-behaved dogs and even owned and trained competitive dogs—something that really shows her experience and understanding of canine behavior. Joy just gets dogs. She’s calm, patient, and pays attention to the little things that makes each dog unique. Whether she’s working with her own pups or helping care for someone else’s, she’s consistent, reliable, and honestly just loves what she does. If Joy’s available to care for your dog, you’re lucky—your pup’s in really good hands.

Schedule

Pet care fits naturally into my work schedule because it’s already a central part of my daily life and routine. Caring for animals isn’t something I squeeze in—it’s something I’ve built my lifestyle around. With experience raising and training multiple dogs, including high-drive working breeds, I’m used to managing feeding times, structured exercise, training sessions, and downtime throughout the day. My schedule is intentionally designed to support the physical and emotional needs of the animals in my care, allowing me to provide reliable, consistent attention without it ever feeling rushed or secondary.

Safety, trust & environment

Whether I’m caring for your pet in my home or yours, I prioritize safety, trust, and a calm, structured environment. In my home, I maintain clear routines, supervise all interactions, and ensure every animal has their own space and comfort. When in your home, I follow your pet’s routine closely, respect their space, and provide consistent, attentive care. I read body language carefully, move at your pet’s pace, and focus on building trust through calm, confident handling. Your pet’s well-being is always my top priority, no matter the setting.

Pets

A typical day

A typical day for me as a pet caregiver revolves around providing calm, structured, and personalized care for each dog I work with. I start the day by reviewing my schedule and preparing everything I need—leashes, treats, training tools, and water—so I’m ready for whatever each dog requires. Whether it’s a walk through the neighborhood, a training session to reinforce good behavior, or simply spending quality time together, I approach every visit with patience and intention. I pay close attention to each dog’s energy, temperament, and comfort level, adapting my approach to suit their needs—whether they’re high-energy and eager to move or more reserved and in need of reassurance. I also handle tasks like feeding, potty breaks, and administering medication when necessary, keeping owners updated with notes and photos. Throughout the day, I focus on creating a safe, positive experience that supports each dog’s physical and mental well-being. Being a caregiver means more than just showing up—it means building trust, providing structure, and helping dogs feel secure and understood.

Before accepting a dog for pet caregiving, it’s important for me to understand a few key things to ensure their safety, comfort, and well-being. I always ask about the dog’s temperament and behavior—whether they’re friendly with new people or other dogs, and if they have any known triggers, anxieties, or history of aggression or reactivity. Health is another priority, so I need to know if they’re up to date on vaccinations, have any allergies, medical conditions, or require medication. Understanding their daily routine is essential, including their feeding schedule, potty habits, and any crate or nap routines they’re used to. I also like to know what level of training they’ve had, which commands they respond to, and if there are any behaviors we’re working on managing, like leash pulling or jumping. Comfort matters too—whether they enjoy car rides, have favorite toys or treats, or get anxious in certain situations. Finally, having an emergency contact and vet information on file is crucial. All of this helps me tailor their care and create a calm, structured, and safe experience from the very beginning.
Each sitter joining Rover needs to pass a background check. And by booking on Rover, you can get photo & message updates, 24/7 support, and reimbursement for eligible vet care.
