i work from home, so i’ve got plenty of time to give your pup real attention throughout the day (not just quick check-ins). i’m happy to do multiple walks a day, and since i’m near downtown oakland, we’ve got plenty of great walk routes, lake merritt, nearby parks, and lots of good “sniffari” streets.

Safety, trust & environment
in my home, your pup gets a safe, relaxed setup with lots of attention. i have a fenced patio so they can hang in the sun and get fresh air, and inside they’ll have plenty of room to stretch out, lounge, and roam comfortably. we’ve also got nearby open spaces, fields, and trails for walks and play. depending on your dog and what you’re comfortable with, i can do off-leash play (only where it’s safe/appropriate) or keep everything leashed, solo adventures or playtime with my dogs if your pup enjoys company. i’m big on following your routine and keeping things consistent: feeding schedules, meds, crate time, training cues, slow introductions, whatever your dog needs. i’m totally comfortable with seniors, shy/anxious pups, and dogs with special instructions. and if your dog would do best with more backyard time, i can also utilize my girlfriend’s place nearby with a fully fenced backyard for extra outdoor play/sniff time (with your permission).

Information Josie D. would like to know about your pet
here’s what i like to know ahead of time: • routine (meals, walks, bedtime) + potty habits • temperament + triggers (anxiety, reactivity, barking, strangers, other dogs) • training/leash habits + house rules (crate, furniture, off-limits areas) • medical needs (meds, allergies, mobility) + vet/emergency contact info • any quirks (escape artist, chewer, counter surfer, etc.)
A typical day
a typical day with me is pretty simple: lots of little check-ins, some good movement, and plenty of chill time. morning: potty break + a solid walk (or a slower “sniffari” if that’s more their vibe), then breakfast and fresh water. midday: another potty break, playtime (tug, fetch, puzzles), or a short training refresher if they like learning. then nap/lounge time while i work. afternoon: a longer walk or field time for extra energy burn, plus some calm hang time after. evening: dinner, one more walk, and then couch cuddles or quiet crate time, whatever your pup prefers. i keep things tailored to the dog: active pups get more adventure, older/anxious pups get a calmer routine, and everyone gets love, structure, and a safe, relaxed vibe.

Pet care experience
i’ve been a dog mom for 20+ years and have basically had dogs my whole life. i trained my own dog from puppyhood and i’ve helped friends (and other pet parents) with basic training and routine stuff too. i’ve taken multiple training classes, so i’m comfortable with things like leash manners, boundaries, and reinforcing good behavior in a calm, consistent way. i’m naturally really good with dogs and i’m great at reading their body language, even the ones that are anxious, reactive, or “don’t usually like people.” i’m patient, confident, and i keep things low-stress so pups feel safe and listened to.
Reviews

Josie was great, spent 5 days taking care of our home and our two pups. Gave regular updates, and left the house immaculate. Thanks Josie! Hope to have you help us again in the future!

Josie is super laid back, which is definitely a wayyy better personality type for my dog Archie since he really picks up on anxiety and nervousness. No complaints from us! He seemed like a happy boy when I returned home after 10 days away. Josie seems very comfortable with dogs and their whole spectrum of quirks, as mine certainly has.

Josie is fabulous! She went above and beyond to care for our dog this week, picking him up at his doggie daycare and adding an extra day of care when we were stuck in Mexico on our return travels. We received many pictures and updates, and Odie clearly loves her! Thank you, Josie! Will definitely hire again.

Josie was on time, communicative, and wonderful with our new anxious rescue dog.
