Information Joseph R. would like to know about your pet

I’ve worked with all sorts of dogs through HHS and dog-sitting for friends or coworkers. Like people, I understand every dog is different, and what works well for one may not work well for others. I also understand dogs in new environments may take some time to warm up to things! Any information you can give me about your dog temperament with strangers, riding in cars, other dogs/animals, social settings, etc. will be helpful, but ultimately slow introductions into every situation is critical to reduce anxiety for them and ensure they feel comfortable and safe.

A typical day

A typical day with the pets I’ve watched or fostered starts with developing a routine, or implementing one if they’re already used to it. I like to start off the morning with a quick walk for a bathroom break, then come back and do breakfast & my morning routine while they eat. If they are a higher energy pup, I’ll typically take them for a second, longer walk before I depart for work. I usually try to leave them alone for no more than 6 hours, but that might vary based off work schedule and the dogs temperament. Immediately upon getting home, a quick walk is important to ensure they have a chance to relieve themselves. After that, it depends on the activity level of the dog; sometimes I’ll take them on a longer walk or hike, sometimes down to the beach, or at a minimum plenty of play time in the house. My schedule is flexible, so if your dog is used to specific activities or routines, I’m easy to accommodate. Evening time routine is similar to the morning, where I ensure one final nighttime walk right before bed. Weekends I typically try to find dog-friendly activities that they can participate it, whether that be walks, hikes, beach, or exploring different parts of the island (assuming they are comfortable in car rides) While I definitely enjoy dogs with an active lifestyle, I’m no stranger to staying in at home at watching tv; and (assuming you are okay with it!) them being up on the couch with me relaxing.

Pet care experience

Just moved to Galveston from Hawaii. Looking to continue to provide excellent and loving care to your pet, and bring the same Aloha! I grew up with dogs my entire life, oftentimes having at least 2 in the house. I don’t currently own my own, but I frequently foster or “Couch Crash” dogs for the Hawaiian Humane society, focusing on pups who have been with the HHS for some time. I enjoy these dogs because it gives them a small break in shelter life, gives me a great friend for a few weeks, and helps me understand their personalities more to help lead to future adoption. Out of the three dogs I have fostered, all three have been either immediately adopted by families, or found their forever homes within 48 hours. Couch crashing can require patience, care, and special attention for dogs that this may be their first experience inside a home. It’s also fun to train dogs basic skills that maybe haven’t had the chance learn yet. Aside from HHS, I have also cared for a few different coworkers pets, both in their homes and my own. I have base access if required for any services for your dog!

Joseph did an amazing job watching the cats. He sent us updates daily, and left the house in great condition! So thankful he was able to watch our cats over the holidays.

Joey was absolutely fantastic with our Frenchie, Lilly! He watched her for 13 days and went above and beyond the entire time. We got frequent updates and amazing pictures that showed just how happy and comfortable she was. Joey kept us informed about everything going on with Lilly, which gave us total peace of mind while we were away. It’s clear he genuinely cares about the dogs he watches. We couldn’t recommend him more highly — we’ll definitely be booking with him again!

We are beyond grateful for Joseph!!!!!!! This was our very first time leaving our three dogs for an extended period of time while we went on vacation, and honestly, we were a little nervous about it. From the moment we connected, Joseph was so informative and communicative that he immediately put our hearts at ease. He gave us peace of mind knowing our pups were with someone we could trust, who would care for them and love them just as much as we do. While we were away, Joseph kept us updated with messages and photos, which we appreciated more than we can say. Seeing our dogs happy, comfortable, and clearly bonding with him made it so much easier to relax and enjoy our trip. His personality is awesome — warm, dependable, and easy to work with — and it’s obvious that our dogs loved him, which truly says it all. We’ll definitely be booking with Joseph again for all of our future trips or anytime we need a sitter. Highly, highly recommend him if you’re looking for someone who goes above and beyond and genuinely cares about your pets. He was a huge blessing for our family! Mahalo Joseph!!!!! 🐾💛

We left our girl “Olive” with Joseph for an extended time. Having never used a dog service before, we were apprehensive and cautious. Joseph was so professional and caring. From our first “meet and greet”- he alleviated our worries and got along great with Olive! His communications were thorough, prompt and he anticipated potential issues (hurricane coming) and conveyed his willingness to do whatever we needed. Joseph allowed us to have a great vacation worry-free which was priceless! Highly recommend Joseph to care for your pet family members!
