Because I’m self-employed, I choose my own hours and have full flexibility about when and where I work. That allows me to be as available as I want to be. I prefer going all in when watching animals and living with them for the days I watch them, but I’m open to what’s needed.

In my experience, I’m used to housesitting. The priority is taking care of the pets, which is usually very simple as instructions are clearly laid out for me. Walks, feeding, trips to the park, administering medicine when need be, and even cuddles are all common experiences for me. I also usually help out with general house chores, but again the priority is always for the pets.

A typical day
Every dog is different, but a typical day would be waking up together (they sleep on my bed or on theirs at my side if they prefer) going for a long walk, first thing, getting their breakfast and water and taking one more trip to the back if needed. My uncle and father work from home so they typically spend time going between different floors of the house hanging with each of us. Then usually there will be an evening or afternoon walk or possibly trip to the park. We have toys to play with at the house as well. Tug-of-war is my favorite. They get dinner and then if I did not take them out for their second walk, we’ll go in the evening, otherwise we’ll make sure to get at least one less strip to the backyard before going to bed for the night. I send pictures and videos to my pets parents throughout the day.

Pet care experience
When I get asked to pet sit, I’m usually with them 24/7 for days and sometimes weeks at a time. Because I’m self-employed, I choose my own hours and have tons of flexibility. I prefer to house pets at mine and only accept one family at a time so they get extra love and care and become part of our family during their stay. It always depends on the individual pet, but I’ve experienced everything from feeding throughout the day, administering medicine, multiple daily walks, trips to the park, cuddles, and general plate time and love. I’ve also dealt with all kinds of personalities sizes and various struggles. I just love animals so much.
