Pet care experience

No dog deserves the kennel!

(Saying up front that I am not comfortable using a prong collar, so if that’s something you use on your dog, I don’t believe I’m a right fit for the service you want. Please don’t invite me to your home and surprise me with a prong collar—I will not use it on your dog.) Now here’s my bio: No dog deserves the kennel! Why settle for the pound when they can spend a night in a home with an owner-on-loan; either in your house on in a house that has raised two other pets from puppyhood to old age? Admittedly, there are stairs and hardwood floors in my house, but I have bought several carpets for my old dog to move around on and can lay them down for your dog’s convenience. We also have a big backyard that your dog will love to run around in (and no predators, unless you count woodchucks and geese) and a long leash that can go all the way to the end of the property line. I love dogs and after a day with me, your furry friend will mistake me for his mother.

Unfortunately, I was disappointed with my experience. I left detailed care instructions for my dog, but several important requests were not followed. I asked that she be let out around 6:00 a.m. each morning, but on some days she wasn’t taken out until nearly 8:00 a.m. I also provided specific collars and leashes to be used for her training, but those were not used as instructed. On one occasion, her slip lead was left on for most of the day, which is a safety concern. Additionally, she was not crated one night despite my instructions, and she spent much of the night pacing, which disrupted her routine and caused unnecessary stress. I understand that no pet sitter is perfect, but I trusted that the care instructions I provided would be followed. Unfortunately, that wasn’t my experience, and I wouldn’t feel comfortable booking again.

Dog Walking • Jul 20, 2026

John is an excellent dog walker and care taker! Having someone come by my place that I trust is a huge relief. Even in warmer weather Benny still got outside and got great exercise. Thanks so much John!

John did a fantastic job watching our lively golden retriever, Ranger. He took him for outings and fun things other than just walks. John stayed in our home and was respectful and treated it as if it were his own! I highly recommend John for any pet care.

So grateful for John! Very understanding of the difficulties I had leaving my Luna for the first time like this - sent me multiple texts, pictures and videos assuring me she was doing well and happy. Very flexible with my schedule and made the point to come meet Luna ahead of time on a previous day. Very attentive to Luna's schedule and her specific little quirks. Luna clearly enjoyed her time, giving John a super speed tail wag and some kisses before we left.

Schedule

I’m most busy Wednesdays-Thursdays, so I marked them out on the calendar, but if petsitting is required for several days, that is easy to accommodate! I also don’t mind waking up every few hours to take a dog out—I have not quite reached the age where sleep is important.

Where your pet will stay

Home characteristics

Lives in a house
Has an unfenced yard
Non-smoking household
Has 1 dog
No children present
Dogs allowed on bed
Dogs allowed on furniture
Potty breaks every 0-2 hours

Safety, trust & environment

I won’t allow your dog to roam around outside unleashed (sorry, but I don’t want to lose them!), but when they’re outside, I’ll make sure they have the freedom to run around to their heart’s content. Additionally, I’m willing to walk them in any weather they’ll put up with and even let them sleep on the couch/spare bed, if they’re not too dirty.

Pets

A typical day

I would play fetch with your dog and make sure they had plenty of exercise. It’s actually not healthy for puppies to run (while their joints are still growing), but I’d make sure your dog is not too antsy or pooped when next they see you

Let me know if your dog has any history of aggression, if they need a certain medication at a certain time, if they have problems with steps or hardwood floors, if they have to be carried, if they have attachment issues with a specific crate, if they can’t walk further than 2 miles, etc…. Anything you think is vital to their daily life, lmk!
