Experienced and loving dog owner

Hi! For almost 16 years I have been a dog owner to 2 beautiful boys. Ari, a golden retriever, and Geo a Puggle. Very sadly, Ari passed at the end of April shortly after being diagnosed with Liver cancer, he was 11 years old. His older "brother'" Geo, a 15-year-old Puggle, then passed only 5 weeks later of heart failure. Perhaps he had a broken heart and wanted to be with Ari. Both Ari and Geo had been patients of Brentwood Country Animal Hospital under the care of Dr. Kate Lawton, since they were puppies. While I am not ready to be a dog daddy yet, I do miss not having dogs in my life. I do have a "grandpup" that lives with my daughter and her husband in NJ and she comes to visit from time to time, but I would like to have more exposure to dogs if I can. I was a regular user of Rover and had 2 or 3 sitters that would come and stay to look after Ari and Geo when I was away and I thought it would be nice if I can offer my services and help other dog owners that would like their dogs to be looked after by somebody who would treat them as if they were his own.

John was an incredible caretaker for my dog, Chester. He was extremely professional and trustworthy and went far above and beyond to ensure that Chester was comfortable and happy and that I was comfortable leaving him. He met us for meet and greets in advance so that Chester could get to know him in preparation for his stay. He took the time to plan a fun weekend of activities that align with Chester’s needs and interests and gave Chester a variety of enrichment experiences all weekend long. John sent regular updates, including a detailed daily recap that let me know all about how Chester was doing. I always felt well-informed and confident that Chester was having a great time. When Chester experienced some digestive upset during his stay, John helped Chester through it so thoughtfully. As a dog owner, John clearly provided his dogs with the highest level of care and extended that to Chester while he was there. John was wonderful to work with and I trust him completely and recommend him as a pet sitter wholeheartedly.

My wife and I have known John for many years and during that time he has shown himself to be a great lover of dogs. The care, attention and love he has exhibited to his own dogs is second to none, and our own dog loves visiting with him. We cannot think of a better person to be a pet caregiver!

John has looked after our dog Olive on many occasions. My husband and I travel a lot and feel very comfortable leaving Olive to stay with John. She is always very excited to see him and go to his home. We get text updates along with photos/videos of her looking very happy on walks and playing with her toys. We know she is very well taken care of and loved when she is with John. We can also tell that John doesn’t watch dogs for the money. John watches dogs because he genuinely loves four legged friends and wants whats best for them. Highly recommend.

Calendar and availability

Schedule

I love to walk and there are lots of great places to walk in and around Exeter, trails, parks and around the grounds of Philips Exeter Academy. I work from home full time and when I do go out it will never be for more than 3 hours at a time. I also have cameras in the apartment to monitor activity while I am out. For my own dogs we had a routine of a minimum of 3 "good" walks per day, and then 1 or 2 little leg stretches. With the owner's permission I am also happy to drive to North Beach, Hampton and other beach areas for a change of scenery. Overall, I will be respectful of existing routines and owner's wishes. I am more than happy to discuss your needs; have you visit my home and of course meet your dog/s so that we can determine if we are all a good fit.

Safety, trust & environment

I live in a bright and airy modern apartment in downtown Exeter. It is on the 2nd floor of a building that only has 3 apartments. There are lots of big windows and 2 decks, the total internal space is almost 1,600 square feet.

A typical day

I love to walk dogs, and if the environment is right play ball and fetch. I love being down on the beach or other interesting areas where there is plenty to sniff and see.
