I work from home, allowing me to easily integrate my two Border Collies into my daily routine. My fenced backyard provides a safe space for play, and I frequently utilize the adjacent forest trails for extended adventures. Our days typically begin with an early morning frisbee or ball game around 6:30 am. I prioritize regular outdoor time throughout the day, regardless of the weather, ensuring they get plenty of exercise until bedtime around 10:00 pm. Additionally, I aim to explore the woods with them at least once a day, providing them with enriching mental and physical stimulation.

Safety, trust & environment
My fenced yard offers a secure outdoor space, and I've installed a doggie door for convenient access. For overnight stays, the canine guests are accommodated in the guest room alongside me. This arrangement has proven effective in minimizing any potential anxiety they may experience, while also providing our feline residents with unrestricted access to the house during the night. I believe in fully integrating each pup into my daily life, ensuring they feel like the cherished guests they truly are. I also have three cats, so your dog must be comfortable around felines. Additionally, my 6-year-old son is an active part of our household, so your pup should be sociable with children. If your pup is a good fit, I offer a warm and loving environment. I deeply value all my animals and enjoy spending quality time with them, including lots of cuddles! I'm adaptable to your pup's individual needs and routines. If they're accustomed to staying off furniture at home, I'll respect that. Similarly, I'm happy to use a crate if it provides comfort or security for your dog. My primary goal is to ensure your pup feels safe, happy, and well-cared for during their stay.

To ensure a harmonious stay, please confirm that your pup is comfortable around cats, children, and other high-energy dogs. To help your dog feel safe and comfortable during their stay, please share any specific rules or routines you have for them at home. Animals thrive on consistency, so understanding their typical schedule and any special needs will help me provide the best possible care.

Fun family home with fenced yard
Pet care experience
Hi! Animals have always been a part of my life. Growing up on a farm, I was surrounded by a diverse range of creatures – chickens, geese, goats, sheep, alpacas, llamas, horses, bunnies, and more. I even inherited the family dog, a lovable but rather pungent fellow! My family also had a heart for rescue, rehabilitating and re-homing dogs, particularly cocker spaniels, from less-than-ideal breeding situations. My first solo canine companions were a Great Dane and a Bouvier, both welcomed into my life at 15. These 11 and 13 years were filled with joy and invaluable lessons, particularly about the unique challenges of living with giant and herding breeds. Since then, I've always had at least one dog by my side. Currently, I share my home with two energetic young Border Collies. They are incredibly fun but demand a high level of canine enthusiasm! Their playful nature, including barking and jumping, doesn't bother me at all. I understand the breed's inherent drive and strive to honor their spirited personalities. For me, the most important thing is to respect an animal's natural instincts and individuality. As long as they are neither aggressive nor fearful, I encourage them to be themselves.
Reviews

Keelie had an awesome day with John! The backyard is perfect for any size dog but especially for larger dogs with lots of energy! He also sent me some photos during the day so I knew that she was living her best life. She hesitated when it was time to get in the car and leave. I was visiting VT from NC for an ailing family member and I am so grateful that John squeezed Keelie in to his "pack" at the very last minute and even allowed us to come over the night before for a meet & greet. Weather your visiting the area and don't want to leave your pet(s) alone at your hotel or local to the area, you would be hard-pressed to find a better caregiver :)

John and his wife were great! Lovely place—my dogs were really excited whenever we turned on to his street!

John did a beautiful job. Finn was very well cared for. I honestly think he had a lot of fun while we were away. He even came back better brushed than when I dropped him off.

Thank you, John, for your great care of Gaia. John was communicative, responsive and sent multiple pictures per day which my partner and I appreciated. I also appreciated John having us visit his home before his caring for her so she could build a sense of familiarity. We will definitely use John’s services again and am so appreciative of the care he provided for our fury family member.
