Pet care experience
Chicagoland animal loving engineer
I’ve been part-time pet-sitting and dog-walking for about the past year, primarily for neighbors living within the same apartment building as me. I’d like to branch out and help more local clients with pet-care needs. I primarily have dog-sitting, dog-walking, and cat-sitting experience. I’ve also pet-sat for rabbits as well. Most of the dogs I’ve cared for have had at least some behavioral training, but to various degrees. I do sometimes get asked to care for multiple pets simultaneously. I will discuss options available surrounding such a situation with you to find the best solution.

Ratings and reviews
John did a great job walking Cardi last week. He was very patient with her slow walking, and encouraged her good behavior. He was a reliable walker, who I highly recommend.

John took care of my parakeets and did awesome. He is very professional and responsible. Highly recommend
John was wonderful with Odie! Sent many updates and pictures to let us know our boy was doing good.

John pet sits for us on occasion when we go out of town, or have an extra busy day. We is very good with communication of our pets needs or any concerns he has. He is timely and fair with fees. Our little pup loves going to see John!
John’s helped walk several dogs in our building and is a reliable sitter who makes sure dogs are well taken care of, and loves to snuggle up with him! He is always willing to help out when he can and has consistent dog clients, which is no surprise!
John is a great dog sitter. He has taken care of my two dogs on various occasions and takes care of them as if they were his own. He also sends very detailed daily reports which are very helpful. Would highly recommend.

Schedule
Pet-care is part-time work for me, but fun work that I get life experience and time with loving animals out of. While it’s not a daily routine, I have cared for animals often enough that I know how to shift-gears and make it a routine, as I have had dogs that I was sitting stay at my place for multiple week-long periods. Please note that I do work a full-time M-F, 9-5 job in an office. So, if you are planning on boarding your pets at my place during the work week, it is greatly preferred that the pets are ones that require less physical presence & attention. We can discuss this though as needed.

Home characteristics
Safety, trust & environment
Most often, I walk-dogs, pick up & dispose of their droppings, prepare their food and water, clean their food and water dishes, feed them if necessary, board them if necessary, and play with them. Pets that are boarded are allowed to be on my bed and couches, including overnight. Dogs that are boarded receive some indoors play time. I am able to walk dogs up to 4 times per day on work days (I am able to come home during lunch hours to walk dogs), and an unlimited number of times on weekends. My apartment building has a small semi-indoor (it is exposed, but has a roof for weather protection) dog area on the 3rd floor of the building with astroturf where dogs can urinate and poop freely. While there is no yard, my apartment building is next to a residential area and a church with a large yard area that is commonly utilized by the area’s dog owners to walk their dogs in.
A typical day
A typical day with pets I watch will include walks, play, and cuddles. I take dogs on several long walks, typically outside around the neighborhood, but weather-dependent, I can walk them inside. After coming in and preparing their post-walk food & water (as necessary), I usually play with them a little. I keep some dog toys on hand, and clients have also provided dog toys. I will toss them around to the dogs or play tug-o-war with them. The dogs are allowed to be up on my couches and bed, so once things calm down from play, they’ll often cuddle up by me. Sometimes, the various dog owners & watchers in my apartment building will get together for a dog meet-and-play. For cats, I also have a couple small cat toys on hand that I will play with the cats using. They too are allowed on furniture to cuddle.
