Availability

I am available to care for dogs at my condo on weekends. Larger dogs who aren't high energy needing a great deal of space to roam would also be welcome. I try to take dogs out as much as possible as I'm a strong believer that exercise is the key to a happy and healthy dog.

Safety, trust & environment

I believe regular exercise is the key to a dog's good behavior, so please know I try to get your dog outside as much as possible. I also feel consistency and a schedule help a dog know what to expect which can help make them a happy confident pet. As a result, I try to keep a dog to whatever schedule a pet parent already has in place when possible.

Information Joanne Z. would like to know about your pet

I find it helpful for pet parents to tell me what their dogs are allowed to do in their own home, ie. are they allowed on the furniture, where do they sleep, what is their feeding schedule like, etc. Most importantly, I like to know if a dog has leash aggression, is fine interacting with other dogs and/or strangers and if they have any fears such as loud noises, trucks, motorcycles. This information helps ensure the safety of your pet as well as others. Overall I usually keep any dog in my care away from other dogs until I can learn their behaviors and I know whether or not it's safe to allow them to say a brief hello to other dogs.

A typical day

I enjoy training dogs as I feel it keeps their brains stimulated and interested in the world around them. Not to mention it creates a much better behaved dog, who people will enjoy being around. If there are certain tricks or behaviors you are working on with your dog, I'd love to hear them. I enjoy hiking, so if you think your dog would as well, we can go on hikes while on leash at either Breakheart Reservation or the Fells.

Pet care experience

Hi, I'm Joanne. I started to walk dogs for Rover in 2019. Prior to starting at Rover, I volunteered for several years at a local animal shelter. In the Summer of 2025, I became certified as a dog trainer through Rover's Good Pup Program. I'm available for either dog walking or dog training, Mondays through Thursday, day or evenings. I'm also available on weekends if requested. I am a past proud owner of a 17 yr old blind beagle named Toby, who passed in 2023. Toby went blind when he was 4 yrs old, so I had to learn to administer eye meds for additional eye issues as well as learn to train and live with a disabled dog. Raising a blind dog required me to gain additional patience and training techniques to ensure his safety and well-being beyond what's necessary in a dog without a disability. I have a special place in my heart for senior dogs or those with disabilities. Additionally I can provide in home visits for either dogs or cats, providing meals, medications or play time in the comfort of a dog or cat's home. I'm a very active person who enjoys being outdoors as much as possible either walking or hiking. I'm available to do any of these activities with your dogs as I believe a well exercised dog is the happiest, healthiest and the most well behaved. I look forward to meeting your fur babies.

Joanne was awesome! It's so evident that she cares for animals, and she sent us updates with pictures during each visit. I would 100% trust her with our fuzzies again.
