Pet care experience

Trusted dog & cat caregiver

My mom is a dog trainer, so I grew up around dogs (and cats and other beings) and learned from her training. Not just how to work with them, but how to build their trust. Just like with humans, care is built on relationship. I'll always take the time to get to know your pet and am a gentle, steady presence. For the past four years, I was so lucky to have an incredible service dog by my side. Sully, a Labrador retriever, was with me 24/7 and we both learned a lot about how to communicate with one another. Sully passed away from kidney disease and cancer this past December, and I miss him tremendously. I'd like to honor his memory by being there for other animal families when they need it. Throughout his illness, I became proficient at giving pills, doing subcutaneous fluids, and adapting our playing to what Sully was up for. Families can count on me to take good care of animals who need extra help.

Joanna took excellent care of our two dogs for a week while we were out of town. They settled right in with her, even our skittish newly adopted puppy, and she did a great job keeping us up to date with daily photos, notes, etc. I would highly recommend Joanna to anyone looking for someone to take care of their fur babies!

Joanna provided pics and videos of Jasmine’s stay. It was such a delight to see our pup was on vacation while we were on vacation. We missed her terribly and it was so sweet to see that Jasmine had a good time on vaca too! I’d do it again. It was a great stay. Jasmine’s head tilts when we mention Joanna is all the proof. This is good. Many thanks.

I cannot say enough about how incredible Joanna is!! She is so caring, patient, and flexible and I am so appreciative of the care she provides for Cassidy, my high sensitivity dog. I would book her a million times over.

Jo is great with all the furry friends! She is attentive, caring, and patient by disposition. Her care for Henrycat, a very elderly cat with medical needs, was above and beyond. With both cats and dogs, whether playful, quiet, anxious, or somewhere in between, Jo is the best.

Safety, trust & environment

When caring for pets in their homes, I start by asking their humans to describe their daily routines, what causes the animal stress or delight, and how they'd like their homes to be used. I'll leave things just as I found them. My apartment is small, but we have a big fenced yard. I've got plenty of toys, comfy beds for dogs and cats, water bowls, and treats at home, but I encourage folks to bring over anything that will help their pet feel at home in my place. For walks of more than 15 minutes, I’d likely use my electric wheelchair so that chronic pain doesn’t limit how much of a walk your pup would have.

A typical day

With animals I’m watching, we love to play with toys, do enrichment games, play in our fenced back yard, go for walks around the neighborhood, and have cozy snuggles on the couch.

What’s your dog’s personality like, when you’re home or when they’re being cared for by someone else? What is something I might do to earn their trust? Do they take any meds or need special care? Any reactivity around other animals or people? If so, tell me how to set us up for a successful time together. And for fun - what’s one of your favorite things about them?
