I have recently retired, which gives me some flexibility, and I am participating in a Canine College dog training program. I love dogs, and I am looking for more opportunities to meet and spend time with dogs. I also enjoy cats and would be happy to house sit and/or walk your cat as well!

Safety, trust & environment
My recent experiences with Our Companions Animal Sanctuary and Canine College programs are teaching me so much about being a pet guardian for different kinds of dogs. I am learning about dog body language and how to help engage dogs in enrichment, calming, and attention-game activities while in a home, in a yard, and on a walk. I have friends who own cats, and I enjoy getting to know them as well.
Information Jo C. would like to know about your pet
Please let me know if your dog or cat has special needs or limitations. I’m comfortable handling dogs up to 70 pounds on a walk and above 70 pounds if we are staying put or in an enclosed yard. The more information you can give me about your dog or cat and your wishes for their time with me ahead of time, the better I can accommodate their needs.
A typical day
I like to get to know each animal I care for by inviting them to opt into playing games aimed at engaging attention, focus, loose-leash walking, and, when helpful, enrichment-calming and relaxing activities. I use whatever dog (or cat) treats rewards approved by each owner and/or play and praise as alternatives. I am experienced with accompanying rewards with a clicker as well.

Pet care experience
I love dogs and cats! I do not currently own a dog or cat, but I volunteer with Our Companions in their Adopt a Shelter program spending time visiting and walking dogs in local shelters, and I have volunteered at their animal sanctuary in Ashford walking dogs. I am also in their Canine College program, taking and assisting in dog training classes. I enjoy using positive training techniques (treats and praise) to reinforce polite dog walking and attentive behaviors. I am comfortable walking dogs up to 70 lbs.
Reviews

Jo is always so communicative and Mowgli always has a great time with her! Would highly recommend.

Jo was terrific! Very communicative and responsible. She sent us photos every day of our cat Olivia who seem to have a terrific time visiting with her. I would highly recommend Jo to anyone looking for someone who wants to be sure that their pet will be well taken care of.
Jo is a kind and trustworthy person who displays compassion and empathy in her care for animals as a canine volunteer at our animal sanctuary.
Jo has been a good friend for many years. She loves animals and has spent a lot of effort studying dog training. She has worked with dogs and helped with rescue dogs. I have an English golden retriever. My dog Ellie loves Jo. Jo has walked with Ellie and me. Jo is always firm but gentle. She has worked hard to understand dog behavior. I recommend Jo to care for pets.
