I specialize in caring for animals with special needs. When I accept an assignment, my first priority is ensuring that medication is administered, food and water are per instructions, wound dressings are attended to and any walks, cuddles or special needs are met. With a new client, I do not leave the pet alone for the first 24 hours. Pets unable to be left alone are never left alone.

Because my clients' pets have medical needs, or are senior citizen pets , often with health issues, I provide care in the pet's home. I only accept an assignment after a FREE meet-and-greet to ensure we are a good fit.
Information JJ M. would like to know about your pet
I like to meet you and your animal companions to ensure they are comfortable with me. During this complimentary meet and greet process, we can walk through the daily routine, including medical conditions, medicine, or post surgical care. I will also be able to answer my questions: - How do they like to exercise? - What are their favorite things? - What commands do they respond best to? - Are there any training techniques you want us to work on?
A typical day
Walks are according to each dog's individual needs. Healthy dogs, able to go on an active walk or romp at a dog park, are a joy. Dogs with medical conditions or special needs will be walked according to their health and stamina. Dogs responsive to cuddling will be cuddled as much as they want! While dogs that want to play will get as much interaction as they want.

Pet care experience
Hi, I’m JJ, raised on a a farm in Guilford and back home to stay. My passions include wild food foraging and animal care extraordinaire! I specialize in the care of animals who are aged, injured, post-surgery or nearing the end of life. I'm retired and I maintain a very flexible weekly schedule, I can accommodate most any request. A dog's capacity for unconditional love and their remarkable intuition never cease to amaze me. I can't wait to meet your loved one(s)! Animals have been in my life since birth. I was lucky to be able to play with farm animals as a child and learn how they perceive the world around them. I may have grown taller, but I never forget that what a dog, cat, pig, horse - or any animal - sees, smells, hears, feels and tastes from his/her perspective, not mine. Without these experiences as a young child, I could not be the pet sitter I am today. Growing up and on a working farm, I learned not only basic animal care but also how to give shots, administer oral medication and dress wounds. In addition to dogs and feline friends, I have experience caring for chickens, rodents, reptiles, fish and larger animals including horses, cows, sheep and pigs. I also worked for a veterinarian for two years, where I learned how to deal with animals who were ill or injured and in pain. When caring for your animal companions in your home, their safety and well-being is my primary concern. I will treat them and your home as if they were my own. To keep your home safe, I have developed a thorough Covid plan. If you are unable to board your animal companion, please reach out to discuss details. You will get frequent updates and pictures when you are away! Send me a request, I'd love to meet you and chat about your home and your pet(s).

Reviews

JJ absolutely saved us! We have an elderly dog with dementia who needed a lot of care. Our only other option was to euthanize her, since we had to be out of state for our son’s wedding. JJ met with us and took the time to get to know our dog, then went way above and beyond to care for her in our home. I’m sure it was a difficult task, but she got her through the week. This gave me the extra time near the end of my furry girl’s life to make decisions based on her health and not because of having to be out of town. She stayed in touch with us the whole time, cared for my old girl, (and left the house immaculate.) We are extremely grateful to JJ, and now I can rest and cuddle my girl for the rest of her days, however long that may be.

Amazing! Lots of care and help to us

JJ was great! She really bonded with Lucy and gave her lots of attention. JJ kept us updated throughout our trip, and we were able to enjoy ourselves knowing that Lucy was well cared for. I highly recommend JJ for pet sitting.
So grateful to have found JJ thru Rover! We were nervous about leaving our darling 5 month old puppy for the first time, but we were extremely happy in every way with the expert care she received, the many photos full of joy every day, the genuine enthusiasm JJ shows for her work. We will certainly reach out to JJ again in the near future.
