I’m a freelance photographer and filmmaker, so my schedule is pretty flexible and project-based. When I’m not out shooting, I usually work from home editing, writing, retouching photos, or planning my next project. Because of that, I’m home a lot during the day and can easily build pet care into my routine. I take breaks regularly, so I’ll check in on pets, hang out with them, play, and make sure they’re doing good. I also make time for walks and outdoor time throughout the day. I wanted to do pet care because I enjoy being around animals, and it fits well with my flexible schedule.

Safety, trust & environment
At home, I focus on what I’d call “loving structure”—making sure my dog’s physical, emotional, and routine needs are consistently met throughout the day. We start the morning with a long walk (usually 45 minutes to an hour), followed by breakfast and a chance to fully settle in—peeing, pooping, and getting comfortable. After that, I get into my work, and I take regular breaks throughout the day to check in, go for quick walks, or spend time playing and hanging out so he doesn’t feel isolated. In the late afternoon, I take him out again for another walk and some playtime so he can explore, move his body, and interact with familiar dogs in the neighborhood. At night, he gets dinner, a final potty break, and usually some dental chews or teeth brushing before bed. Overall, I try to make sure he’s not just physically taken care of—he’s also emotionally fulfilled through attention, consistency, and connection. I approach client pets the same way, adjusting based on their specific needs and routines. For dogs, I usually follow a similar structure unless they require something different. For cats, I focus more on play, enrichment, and making sure food, water, and litter are always clean and consistent. I also pay close attention to any changes in behavior or health, and make sure the environment stays calm, safe, and predictable so they can feel comfortable and relaxed.
Information Jin R. would like to know about your pet
If your dog has any special needs, medical conditions, medications, allergies, or behavioral traits I should be aware of, please let me know in advance so I can properly prepare and provide the best care possible. Clear communication ahead of time helps me ensure your pet stays safe, comfortable, and well looked after throughout their stay.
A typical day
I enjoy taking dogs outside where they can safely explore, whether that’s a secure backyard or a well-managed dog park. I always stay attentive to their behavior and surroundings to make sure they’re safe and comfortable, especially around other dogs. I believe sniffing and exploring new environments is one of the best forms of enrichment for them. Indoors, I keep dogs mentally engaged with simple games like hide and seek, treat-based activities, and light training such as recall and basic commands. I also enjoy playing fetch or other ball games, depending on the dog’s personality. My goal is to balance physical exercise, mental stimulation, and calm, positive interaction throughout the day.

Pet care experience
Six years ago, I became the guardian of a six-week-old Shiba Inu named Kuro. Shibas are known for being independent and, without proper socialization, can become withdrawn. I dedicated his early years to consistent training, structure, and socialization. Today, he is a confident, well-adjusted dog who often changes people’s assumptions about the breed. That experience taught me patience, consistency, and respect for an animal’s personality. It also shaped how I approach care—balancing structure with empathy and always paying attention to the individual needs of each animal.
Reviews

Jin is awesome with my dog, Mimi! He is a great trainer, and conscientious about winning Mimi’s trust.
Jin is a reliable, thoughtful and trustworthy pet sitter. We have had nothing but positive experiences. A pleasure to work with and we highly recommend!
Jin is a dog-whisperer who is known and beloved among all the local furballs in my SE Portland neighborhood. I have grown to know and deeply trust Jin after meeting him at the dog park several years ago. He is our first choice to look after the house and care for our 12-year-old dog and two cats when we travel. Jin's focus on a healthy lifestyle and engaging with mindful compassion serves him well as a caretaker. These qualities are evident in his respect for our space and his excellence at the hard stuff like doling out the necessary prescriptions for our aging dog and asthmatic cat. Taking care of our pets requires more than just regular walks and filling food bowls. Jin goes above and beyond to maintain the harmony in our home, and for our aging, needy pets. We value having someone we can trust when we leave town and highly recommend him!
Jin is a marvelous person. He cares for his community and the well being of those around him, this includes the animals. He is steady, kind, and patient. Furthermore, he's the kind of person that's leaves a place better than when he found it. Jin is wonderful with his own pup. Attentive and caring. He'll care for others as his own. I recommend Jin with the utmost respect.
