When we are entrusted with the care of a pet, just like if we’re looking after my little nephew or niece, we automatically kick into reflexive parent mode: we cannot help but pay constant attention to the safety of our charge. Greg grew up on a farm where his family always had at least 2 dogs at any given time (mostly Jack Russell terriers) and he usually has great empathy with animals and can figure out what they need pretty quickly. This combines well with a good amount of learned general knowledge about dogs and cats, built up over both of our lifetimes of owning pets.
