A typical day
We're in a clean, quiet two-bedroom apartment in DC with no kids and one small resident dog, Poppy. I keep the space calm and consistent. Guest dogs are supervised the majority of the day and may be left briefly for errands, never for long stretches. I require a meet-and-greet before any first stay.

If your dog is a low-shedding small breed and you're the kind of person who interviews sitters before booking, this is for you. I'm Jessica, a registered dietitian in my early 40s who works from home full time and takes a maximum of one guest dog at a time. Your dog isn't lost in a crowd here. They're with me and Poppy all day, going on walks, getting treats, napping on the couch, treated like the main character they clearly are. Honestly I'm just obsessed with animals. I won't even kill a spider, I'll relocate it outside. I truly believe we don't deserve dogs and I think about that every single day with my girl Poppy. She's a 6-year-old Maltese/Shih Tzu and the undisputed queen of our Foggy Bottom apartment. It's just my husband, me, and her here. Quiet, clean, kid-free, and genuinely one of those homes where dogs just immediately relax. My husband has allergies so we only welcome low-shedding breeds under 30 lbs that don't carry a strong doggy odor. This isn't a rule I bend. But if your pup fits, I promise they will be completely spoiled. I want to know their name, their quirks, their favorite walking pace, what treat makes them lose their mind a little. You'll get photo and video updates throughout the day because I know you'll be checking your phone anyway. I started sitting by watching my neighbor's dog for free because I just love being around dogs that much. My long-term dream is to run a rescue someday. This is genuinely my happy place. In case you're wondering if your pup qualifies: Maltese, Shih Tzu, Toy/Mini Poodle, Bichon Frisé, Havanese, Yorkie, Mini Schnauzer, Coton de Tulear, and doodle mixes with a confirmed curly coat (Cavapoo, Cockapoo, Mini Goldendoodle) — all under 30 lbs. Your dog must be potty-trained and comfortable around other small dogs. Meet-and-greet required before the first stay.

Jessica has watched and boarded my dog Bodhi for me many times. She has been absolutely wonderful with Bodhi, and you can tell she loves him like he’s part of her family. Bodhi and her dog Poppy get along wonderfully , and have become little besties. She is reliable, communicative, and clearly very experienced with dogs. I really appreciate that she goes the extra mile by sending me pictures, videos and updates when she is in his care. It is obvious that Jessica genuinely cares about the dogs she works with. Bodhi is always happy and well cared for, and I feel completely comfortable knowing he’s in good hands. Jessica watched my Maltese mix and I was honestly nervous because I am picky about who keeps him. It ended up being such a good experience. She only had one other dog there, so it felt calm and not overwhelming. Her place was super clean and did not smell like dogs, which I really appreciated. She sent photos and quick updates without me having to ask. My dog looked relaxed in every picture. When I picked him up he was happy and not stressed at all. I would definitely book with her again.
