I built a dog resort! +Full-time

Perks: - I have a huge old-school private fenced yard right in the city, around 80 feet (25m) deep. I filled it with a truckload of wood chips annually just like the dog parks and added lots of native plants. It's particularly good for fetchers, playful dogs, and sun soakers. - Double gated "airlock" entrances front and back - Big outings are usually dog parks or hikes, depending on personality, recall, and/or pull - Don Valley trailhead within a 3-minute drive or I also like Moore Ravine, Evergreen Brickworks, and Taylor Creek. I know several access points and side trails, and with outdoorsy or low-pull dogs, I always prefer that over urban sidewalks. There's also a great semi off-leash area. Lucky dogs go on super hikes out of town with me. - Big dog parks (Withrow Park, Stan Wadlow, The Pocket) are close by. Usually go to Kew or Cherry Beach on good weather days or for a change of pace. Beach for sure at least once a week. Dieppe park walking distance - best for senior grass rolling dogs. - I leave the back door open as much as possible - I've been doing photography/videography forever, so you'll get great photos and long form videos - Air conditioning: good for dogs that don't do well in the summer heat - I have EVERYTHING (dog gear), see the bottom - multiple wi-fi cameras, mostly used to catch amusing bad-doggery in action - pick up/drop off possible for an extra fee, usually whatever the to/from Uber charge is - I've completed a dog first aid/CPR course. I'm by no means a vet, but I've learned a lot of small things from the course. - training, meal plan, and grooming possible options - Extra active dogs. I'm active too and can trail run, do rollerblade walks, snorkel, and paddle boarding I've been told I have an energy that dogs like. They all seem to like me. I feel like it's because I treat them like kids. Talk to them, snuggle with them, reward them with treats, but am also firm when necessary, so they have routine and consistency. My pug is in my profile, but I can't seem to remove it. I used to share him with my dad, but because he's older now, he's permanently in Vancouver. I leave the back door open all day if the weather is nice. I feel like the dogs treat it like an all-inclusive resort. Most returning dogs rush to my place and ditch their owners LOL. Some don't want to leave! I can divide my living area into multiple spaces with sliding doors, rooms, gates, and 3 floors. Good if your dog needs time to socialize and perfect for feeding. I'm an active individual and nature lover. When the weather is not rainy, I almost always go hiking on my secret dog trail around the Don Valley. I always try to do trails and parks instead of streets and sidewalks. I don't have any official training certification, but I've trained so many regulars that I really feel like I know what to do for most dogs, and for low-level anxiety dogs too. If you dog is a non-eater, I pressure cook a recipe of ground turkey or pork, sweet potato, spinach, rice, and olive oil. It's particularly good for dogs with sensitive stomachs or to get a non-eater to eat because I don't leave food out. My tenant is a professional groomer, so it's possible to arrange a stay + grooming - only if you're doing doesn't hate grooming with a passion because I don't want him/her to have a negative anchor with their stay. Or perhaps, have grooming arranged after multiple stays. I feel like I have EVERYTHING: - more waterproof dogs beds than I can count, dogs can sleep on my couch (slipcovers). All dogs can go on my beds (I have two) unless you have a loud snorer, but even then, I have noise canceling headphones I can use - day blankets/bath runners/towels to lie on. Most dogs seem to like to sleep by my feet while I'm working. - custom leashes and splitters of all sizes made from my old climbing ropes. Let me know if you want one! - dog bowls of all sizes; weighted ones, light ones, stones for slow feeding; you don't need to bring - Two Slobber Stopper XL water bowls - outdoor 3-season water fountain - more Kongs than I can count. I usually stuff peanut butter and liver - harnesses of all sizes; I use loose harnesses so I can move dogs if I'm feeding, preventing them from running outside if I'm calling them in, etc - Gopro harnesses I made myself, medium and large. Good for water fetchers and speedsters. The footage is really fun to watch - small dog jackets for winter - dog brushes for shedders - Chuck-it and tons of Chuck-it balls - portable water and bowl for dog park days - hard bottom dog carry bag to bring small senior dogs down to the yard - multiple leashes: short rope, small dog, waist tether, 50lb. retractable, splitters, harnesses of all sizes, plus a 10m, 15m, 20m, 30m dog ropes - multiple pet gates; I can separate dogs if one wants to be left alone for a bit. I also always separate dogs for feeding. Custom "mini door" to filter out smaller dogs for feeding. - pee towels for seniors; disposable pee pads - wet wipes for dogs that don't pee cleanly yet - slipcovers, triple vacuums, hepa filters, and urine detector. I love having dogs around, but I also like to keep a clean house! - rear seat dog hammock in my car and dog seatbelts - Tractive GPS collar. I can activate the subscription service if you have an escape artist - Smart tag tracking collars; dog tags with my contact info - Regular sized 36 inch crate and bed, small 20 inch crate and bed, permanently set up if your dog needs it - long shower hose for baths (baths extra, unless dogs got dirty on my watch) - outdoor shower and grooming station, air dry whenever possible - indoor grooming station for medium dogs and smaller. Professional grooming dryer. - professional grooming hypoallergenic shampoo - carpet cleaner vacuum + enzyme cleaners - reusable diapers female size medium and large, disposable diaper liners (for marking dogs) - reusable male belly bands size medium, large, and XL with disposable diaper liners (again for marking dogs) - dog proof trash cans with weighted lids and anchored to the wall - 5 Germ Guardians air cleaners to reduce hairballs - I have dog toys, mostly rope, but I prefer not to use them as they usually cause problems. - Outdoor propane heating and deck space heaters for the winter - Dog first aid kit, wraps, polysporin, dry skin ointment, etc - Car: Folded down extra LOW flat back seat, dog barrier, and dog seat belts. I can do pickups at whatever the Uber back/forth rate is. Please provide your dog's food, dried liver treats if you wish, medicine, allergy information, and bed if they're prone to being homesick. Also let me know if your dog raids garbage, countertops, chews on things, etc. Dogs with anxiety must go through multiple test daycares and stays before a big stay for everyone's benefit!

Jesse provided fantastic care for our small dog. She loved hanging out in the backyard. It’s the perfect dog haven and her new favourite spot. He made her feel comfortable and happy at her home away from home

It was Momo's second stay with Jesse and she had an amazing time again. Jesse is very experienced, easy to communicate with and takes the time to settle in with a dog. The daily outings to trails or beaches were great for Momo's high energy level. The regular updates and videos of her stay were also much appreciated. Feel very comfortable leaving momo in his care, strongly recommend.

Jesse is incredibly thoughtful and communicative. My senior chocolate lab has been in his care several times now and has had a lovely time, each time. I appreciate how Jesse shares videos and messages about my girl’s adventures. :)

Dogsitting is full-time for me. I have a side hustle online business, but it's low maintenance, and I only attend to it after I get all the dog outings done.

Safety, trust & environment

Dogs have free roam. In good weather, I leave the back door open and dogs can stay out in the yard unless they dig or bark excessively. The backyard is fully blocked off from escape with double gates. I have pet gates to block off the kitchen if a dog wants privacy or for feeding.

Pets

A typical day

Lots of yard time weather permitting. Usually playful dogs go at it in the yard a bit, but most like to sun out. I generally like going on a big outing - hikes, to a park, or beach - depending on your dog's stamina. My favourite spots are Lower Don Parklands trails, Kew Beach, Cherry Beach, Moore Ravine, Taylor Creek, Withrow Park, Evergreen Brickworks, Monarch Park, Dieppe Park, and The Pocket. Ball throw in the yard for fetchers. If your dog can go off-leash, I always prefer hiking. Rollerblading and trail running for active and attentive dogs.

Must get along with other dogs, even if indifferent to them. In order to do this full-time, I have a few regulars, all good dogs. Would like to know if they're good off-leash, if they respond well to recall, and if they have anxiety issues. Dogs with separation anxiety may need a test stay or two before a long stay - it really helps them. Unfortunately, I can't take any dogs with aggression issues. Some food aggression is OK and normal, dogs are always separated for feeding. Snapping at other dogs when annoyed or being humped is also normal. Leash reactive dogs normal too.
