Safety, trust & environment
I have a dedicated, pet-proofed office space designed specifically for visiting pets, allowing them to safely explore and interact with their surroundings in a controlled environment. When caring for pets in clients’ homes, I request a detailed checklist of routines, expectations, and behavioral notes in advance. This ensures I’m fully prepared and can provide consistent, thoughtful care tailored to your pet’s individual needs

Information Jess A. would like to know about your pet
I request a detailed checklist and clear expectations about your pet’s behavior, routine, and needs. This helps me prepare for every situation and ensures your pet feels safe and understood. Some examples of what I like to know ahead of time: • Feeding schedule and food restrictions • Medication details (dose, timing, how they take it) • Reactivity to dogs, cats, strangers, bikes, etc. • Resource guarding (food, toys, space) • Separation anxiety or crate anxiety • Escape artist tendencies or door-darting • Leash behavior and recall reliability • House training status and marking habits • Fear triggers (thunder, loud trucks, grooming tools, men, children, etc) • Any bite history or warning signs • Sleep routine and preferred rest areas • Enrichment preferences I believe in proactive care rather than reactive problem-solving. The more I know about your pet ahead of time, the better I can anticipate their needs and create a calm, safe experience for them. That said, I don’t approach animals with rigid expectations. I’m happy to work through a flexible, thoughtful assessment of your pet and adjust in real time based on their comfort and personality.
A typical day
I tailor activities to each pet’s personality, energy level, and comfort. For high-energy pups, that might mean long walks, free sniff sessions, structured play, or enrichment games. For more relaxed pets, I focus on calm companionship, gentle play, and plenty of affection. I love a puzzle toy. Basic training refreshers (if approced), hide-and-seek with treats, and confidence-building activities. Safety and comfort always come first. I pay close attention to body language and routines so your pet feels secure and understood while you’re away. Expect lots of updates, photos, and a happy, fulfilled pet when you return.

Pet care experience
I’m newer to Rover, but have been working with animals for over a decade. My background is in wildlife rescue and rehab and I’ve worked as an animal behaviorist in zoological institutes. Currently, in NYC, I’m on the board of a small animal rescue and a shelter volunteer for NYCACC. I’ve grown up with dogs and cats my whole life, and pet sitting/ walking through Rover lets me be part of so many more animal lives. I’m attentive and will always have your pet’s best interest mind, while still making any walk or visit engaging. Any questions please never hesitate to reach out :)

Reviews

The special care and attention that Jess provides for our senior pup and 2 cats is outstanding. Truly 5 star compassion and responsibility.

Jess is one of the Best dog walker I’ve worked with on Rover! I’m so glad I found him. He is super communicative, I prefer over communication than not. He certainly made sure to keep me informed. What I truly appreciate is he’d leave these notes after each walk, that made me smile in the middle of my work day, the way he described my fur baby, Jasper is beyond adorable. Thank you, Jess. Will for sure work together again.

JD is an absolutely fantastic dog walker!! He goes on long weekly walks with our very large, high-energy dog and does a great job with him! JD consistently takes care to keep our dog safe and reinforces good behavior on walks! He also sends thorough and very funny updates at the end of each of the walks so we’re always in the loop on how our dog is doing! He is also good at frequently communicating with us each week. In my opinion he is the best dog walker in the neighborhood!!
JD is the epitome of an animal person. He cares deeply about them and animals almost always flock to him wherever he goes. He has a gentle presence with them and always seems to know what they need. He’s great at interacting with animals and engaging/playing with them.
