Pet care experience
Quiet & Cat-friendly for 38 years!
I currently live with three lovable cats--one I walk as often as she'd like and who is quite active, one who prefers to roll on the concrete outside, and one who prefers a quieter, more pampered life solely indoors. I keep up their feeding, much of their play schedules, and stay on top of their grooming and health*** +++ needs. I have owned and loved cats of all ages and types for my whole life. I'd love to turn my experience into love and care for your beloved companions. I have experience with kittens who need play and socialization all the way through cats with special needs, including medications and special accommodations. I am skilled at gaining kitty trust and unafraid of claws. I am willing to work with you--if you prefer your cat be the only one boarding with me for the time frame in question, please ask! I would love to make you and your cat as comfortable as possible. There is little that surprises me when it comes to cats, and much that delights me. I hope to help you and yours feel comfortable and delighted as well. I have a very flexible schedule, and would love to work with your cats and kittens. ***We learned in August 2021 that our older (now 14 years old) cat, Khufu, has Feline Calicivirus (FCV). Links for more info are included below, and questions are absolutely welcomed. In short, he occasionally may have cold-like respiratory symptoms that are infectious, which we will monitor him for. If this should arise, we will inform you ahead of time/during the stay. FCV is preventable for the most part with regular vaccines, though some strains slip through as it mutates quickly. https://www.vet.cornell.edu/departments-centers-and-institutes/baker-institute/our-research/animal-health-articles-and-helpful-links/feline-calicivirus https:// www. uwsheltermedicine. com/library/resources/adopting-cats-with-feline-calicivirus (Sorry, Rover made me break up the link to include it, but I felt it was important to include.) +++ We learned in October 2023 that Khufu has kidney disease/failure. For us, that means we are switching from free-feeding dry food for our cats to containing dry food in automatic feeders. For boarders, it means I will closely monitor any food--if your kitty is used to free feeding, I'll keep their food in a separate area and make sure they can access it, away from Khufu. Otherwise, he's on a k/d wet food diet, which I will also be on top of during meal times. If you have an automatic feeder at home, I'd be more than happy to accommodate it in my home for the duration of the stay. I'm currently working part-time in the mornings and some evenings, and thus have plenty of time to spend with your cats. I'm the first one up most mornings in our house and fill all the water and food dishes and check the litter boxes, and I oversee the play schedules and any walk time for cats who are harness-trained. I also oversee feedings throughout the day and in the evenings. We have an unfenced yard, so I will take cats on short harnessed walks if they are harness-trained and owners request it. I'll incorporate play for kitties to keep them entertained, as well as cat TV for those cats who are into it, and the feeding schedules that owners prefer.

Schedule
I currently teach English as a Second Language to children in China very early in the morning, then care for cats with the rest of my day. I go where the cats are! Every day, I do the usual cat care around my home, in addition to giving IV fluids to Khufu for his kidney care, nasal medication, and oral medication (all for Khufu, poor guy!).

Home characteristics
Safety, trust & environment
In my home, I can separate cats into a few rooms if needed, and I also have a pet gate I can use to separate the basement from the upstairs or one half of the upstairs from the other. This helps kitties to get to know one another more slowly. In clients' homes, I often play soft classical music (or fitting music for the clients' homes) to put anxious kitties at ease. I do this for drop-ins and housesits. I do my best to get to know each cat's personal needs--do they want distance? brushing? play? are they food-motivated? I really like to listen to and follow the cats' leads. I find them to be so fascinating.

A typical day
Active cats and kittens will enjoy ample play time with me. Cats and kittens looking for a lap will have plenty of space provided to them. Cats and kittens who need a quiet space will have quietness to slip into. My home affords views of trees, bushes, and birds, squirrels, and sometimes other fun critters for kitty enjoyment as well. We have a cat tower, four kitty shelves mounted to the wall, and many toys for the cats to play with. We also have four humans who love cats and dote upon them throughout the day, and are fairly quiet, which most cats seem to prefer. We have plenty of cat toys and furniture for cats and kittens. From nip toys to tossables to string toys to tunnels, cats and kittens who prefer to play will find a lot of fun here. They can choose to play solo or with other cats or with humans, or a mix of the three. And we're happy to do the same both here and in our clients' homes when we do drop-ins and house sits as well.
