Safety, trust & environment

I adjust to the Dog's schedule which we can go over in the meet & greet. I don't like to crate dogs for long periods unless it's a puppy and they're in training. The dogs I have been asked to crate were traumatized by it and in many cases, the owner realized that doing so was detrimental to their relationship with their dog. I am happy to try out other options with clients to get them uncrated if they're in a transition period.

Information Jennifer R. would like to know about your pet

Common questions I ask are about the dog's schedule, how long he/she can be left alone, walking and social skills with humans and other animals, games the dog likes to play, and any other emotional support needs. I am all about being an anchor for the dog by understanding his individual needs and valued rewards. I find it interesting to interact with many different breeds. Some breeds that are on my current hot list to take care of are Greyhounds or Italian Greyhounds. I have an automatic soft spot for dachsunds too. I have ended up liking 99% of the dogs I have cared for no matter the mix of breed.

A typical day

I love to go on walks whether I’m with a dog or not. A trip to the park on leash or a long hike/light walk through neighborhoods are some of my usual trips, but it all depends on the dog. I can take them down the main street or to the Farmer’s market to meet, watch and sniff people & dogs if they can handle it. I’m very sensitive to loud noises due to an ear surgery I had many years ago and will not be far behind your dog in sensing that we need to move away from any noise that's too overwhelming. My dog massages are always as big of a reward as the walks.

Pet care experience

I started caring for dogs, because I was unable to adopt a dog into my home. I like communicating with them and treating them as partners who deserve respect. They bring out my maternal side. I am intuitive, patient, attentive, and conscientious, and know how to attune myself to how dogs feel. I am experienced at massage and working with dogs who are extra sensitive to fireworks and other loud noises. I'm available for day sitting/constant care while doing overnight house sitting. I usually work close to Marta transit. Besides the clients I’ve worked with on Rover for the past few years, I have experience dog, cat and bird sitting for neighbors and friends when they have been on vacation throughout the years. The clients that typically like to work with me consider their dogs as family and are willing to share information about their dog so that I know how best to form a partnership with him, and they like any feedback I can give them from my visit. A good number of dogs I have worked with were rescue or shelter dogs at one time. I take the bus/train most everywhere, and one of the first questions I'll ask is your location to see if it's possible for me. I will take notes during our meet and greet and follow any instructions given by the human parents and treat the owner's home well leaving it the way I left it if not cleaner. We can discuss any additional animal or home requests during the meet and greet. Besides good quality walking, I provide dog massages and/or belly rubs, daily texts, and a follow-up at the end of the visit including pictures.

Jennifer was wonderful to work with. She is very detailed, taking notes and paying close attention to our conversations prior to house/dog sitting for our family. I had every confidence that things would go smoothly in our absence, and it made it so much easier to relax while we were away. We will definitely book with Jennifer again.
