Safety, trust & environment

Pets all have their own personalities, comfort levels, and needs. I let them tell me what they need and want, so my visits and walks will look different for every pet. Relaxing together may be cuddles on the couch with one dog (or cat! 🤍) and spending time on opposite ends of the room with another. Dogs and cats have feelings and boundaries too, and the best way of building trust is to respect those boundaries. As much as I’d love to give every pupper a big hug, that’s not what they all want, so the ways I show love will vary. Mealtimes, pee breaks, enrichment, walks, and bedtimes will be done as instructed by you, and with attentive care to your pet. As for safety in the environment, obviously if there is something that needs a quick response for the safety of your pet, then that will be prioritized right away! Medications may also necessitate crossing some boundaries, but doing so with care to make it as stress free as possible. ** Note for doggy daycare: I do not currently have a dog! **

Information Jenica C. would like to know about your pet

Let me know of any significant personality or reactive quirks - are they scared of skateboards? Do they bark at kids? Maybe they say hello to fellow dogs by charging and barking, even if they mean well. I grew up with two reactive dogs, so my go-to response is to re-direct and to change direction as needed, with some help from high value treats. Also good to let me know of any food allergies, preferences, or dietary needs so that I can accommodate those! Plus, if your pet has a funny personality trait or habit, please let me know as those are always fun to discover!

A typical day

Dogs need both physical and mental exercise and I love introducing them to fun new environments, depending on their comfort level. Our hang outs could include a big sniff walk with lots of pauses to read the scents of who’s been where, some fetch with a ball (in permitted off leash areas), training new or existing skills, or visits to the dog park (if that’s your dog’s thing). Open to requests or recommendations for a pet’s favourite activity. Kisses and hugs and back scratches are also part of the deal for the dogs that like those!

Pet care experience

A bit about me: I love dogs! Their pure and genuine happiness and excitement makes them a highlight of my day every time I see one. I enjoy meeting dogs and getting to know their individual personalities, likes, and dislikes. ** Note for doggy daycare: I do not currently have a dog! ** MY EXPERIENCE I’ve been walking my 40lb family dog for the thirteen years that we’ve had her, and I walked our previous 24lb dog for years before her. Both are nervous, reactive dogs, so I have a lot of experience in handling pooches that struggle to maintain their focus and composure while on a walk (ie. that bark a lot and lunge when they see another doggo across the street). While I am comfortable with uncomfortable dogs, I will do my best to prevent stressful situations from happening by using high value treats, crossing the street to avoid conflict, or altering my route altogether. MY WALKS I will take your dog for whatever kind of walk they need: a stroll through the park, pausing to sniff wherever they’d like; a leisurely walk through the neighbourhood; or a brisk march to get as far as possible in our walk time. I do not take dogs for runs at this time. I look forward to meeting your dog!

Jenica was very Nice, she met our dog Bruno and Bruno liked her. Super nice and came across as a straight forward person, we like that! Jenica sent us pics throughout the day. She also provided him with treats. We were very happy with her. Thank you Jenica! 👍

My dog had a great time on his walk with Jenica. He is an energetic handful and she did a great job tiring him out. He loves playing and I could tell he really bonded with her even after just the first walk. Thanks Jenica!
