We chose Jen because her profile highlighted extensive experience with dogs, including puppies, training, socialization, and different personalities. Before booking, we were transparent that Duncan is a 9-month-old, 70-lb Lab with typical adolescent puppy energy, and we specifically confirmed she was comfortable with him. Duncan had a difficult first night and became overly excited with Jen’s 13-year-old dog, so we completely understood separating them. Our concern was the communication afterward. We repeatedly told Jen we were only 20 minutes away and would come get him if he was struggling, but instead received a series of negative updates and videos of him barking without clear communication about whether she wanted us to pick him up or how he was doing overall. By morning, he had barked until 1 a.m., started again at 5 a.m., and was described as “harassing” the other dogs, so we picked him up. We completely understand that not every dog is a good fit for every sitter. If Jen had simply told us that Duncan was too stressed and she didn’t feel boarding was a good fit, we would have understood. Given her advertised experience, we expected more direct communication. Based on our experience, we would not book her again for a young, energetic dog.
