Safety, trust & environment

Alex and I live in a basement suite of my parent's deep cove home, separate from the rest of the house with a separate entrance. The home has a large fenced yard (locked gate) and the entrance to the basement suite has an extra gate at the top of the stairs. My parents have an indoor cat that will stay in their section of the home, and we can ensure no contact between boarding pups and the home kitties. The basement suite is fairly large, with limited furniture and nothing the dogs can chew or get into trouble with! They can be allowed free range of that area if we need to leave, but I also can practice crate training if that's the preference.

Information Jeanine & Alexander S. would like to know about your pet

It is important to me to understand the history of your pet. Any history of aggression or triggers with other animals, certain situations or certain people or children. Is your pet treat, toy or attention motivated? What is a high value reward to them? For dogs, how do they act on leash vs off leash (ex: off leash in my yard).

A typical day

Depending on your pets needs, I am happy to offer a morning and afternoon walk around my neighbourhood area. I have plenty of forest walks to choose from, so your pets will have plenty to explore and smell. I always bring food with me on walks, so we can practice heel, loose leash walking and other commands on the go. Back at home, I like to do a bit of training before meal times and use food puzzles to keep your pets mentally stimulated too. At the end of the day, you can find us resting and watching a movie before it's time for sleep.

Happy pets & clean home guaranteed!

Pet care experience

Professional pet AND housecare. Guaranteed a cleaner house than when you left it and of course, happy pets!! We started our housesitting journey in Australia where we travelled and housesat for 1 year! We have since returned to our home town of Vancouver, where we housesit all over the lower mainland while we save up for a home purchase of our own :) We have a variety of experiences using Pawshake, MadPaws, Trusted Housesitters, AussieHousesitters, CanadaHousesitters, and also from friends and family's pets. We've been housesitting around Vancouver since the summer of 2024, and have been loving it! To date, we have cared for 50+ houses and 100+ pets. We LOVE housesitting and promise to care for your pets and your home while you are away. For us, housesitting is a lovely way to meet lots of dog breeds, and experience various neighbourhoods across Vancouver as we are hoping to purchase our own home and adopt a dog within the next few years. Housesitting has been a great way for us to save money on rent and explore a variety of neighbourhoods in Vancouver. DOG EXPERIENCE: Jeanine: I am an enthusiastic self-taught dog trainer with experience training an 8-week-old puppy from its first week home until 4 months of age! I have self-taught myself Positive Reinforcement (R+) and balanced dog training, Click Training, Food Luring and am always continuously learning. I have experience working with leash pulling, potty training, crate training, impulse control, leash biting, patience and improving responsiveness to basic commands. I would love to support whatever training you are doing with your pups. Alex: I have a 9-5 mon-fri role that pulls me away from the house but I have loved caring for pets in the evenings. ABOUT US: We are two professionals in our early 30's, born and raised in Vancouver who have recently returned from a year abroad in Australia. We are very active and love going for runs, hikes, skiing, surfing or other adventures. We love exploring whatever neighborhood we are in, and will happily take your pup on our short or long walks, whatever the preference. My partner (Alex) works full time, and I (Jeanine) am currently an environmental consultant with some field days, and looking for a work-from-home position. LONGER SITS: In instances where housesits may be longer, I have the option to reach out to a fellow rover sitter and dear friend to ensure there is coverage in case of emergencies, or a day away. This is 100% optional and I would inquire with you and your comfort level before confirming, but this is a useful contact to ensure your pets needs are always met whatever the scenario! We have worked together for longer housesits, trading off to ensure smoothe transitions for the pets and household duties. OUR PROMISE: It is vitally important to us that petowners feel confident and comfortable leaving us their pets and/or home, so we have gone above and beyond to ensure homes have been respected, secured, cleaned and pets loved and taken care of as though you were home. We promise to send photo and text updates, so you know your fur babies are happy! A summary of our housesitting rules are: no smoking, photo + text updates, clean laundry + clean house. If there is anything we can do to improve your or your pet's experience, please don't hesitate to reach out! DOG TRAINING: My training style follows SPCA recommendations: - Force-free, reward-based/positive reinforcement (R+) training methods - Humane training methods that focus on rewarding/reinforcing what you want your dog to do and using motivators like treats, food, play (what the dog finds motivating) and not forcing a dog to do something. (*disclaimer* I am not professionally trained, just an enthusiast!). Dog training is a passion of mine and a great way for me to spend time with your pups while you're away! Do you want specific training sessions while you're away? Let's chat! You can purchase dog training sessions to occur during your housesit. These come with a time block explanation of how time was spent, along with photos and videos :)

Wow - I cannot say enough amazing things about Jeanine & Alex. The main takeaway is that there is zero chance that we would have been able to really enjoy our vacation away without the skill, kindness, and patience that Jeanine and Alex had while caring for Barlow. For context, they took care of our 4-month-old mini-aussie puppy, who has never been left with anyone else. So, this was a very new experience for us and Barlow. At the beginning, Jeanine and I were frequent penpals working through Barlow's challenges in responding to new people in his space and the absence of his owners. Jeanine was patient, flexible, and supportive in working through how Barlow responded to the disruption of his typical routine. She consistently followed-up on changes to his behaviour and perservered through Barlow testing the boundaries. While Barlow eventually settled into his new rhythm, Jeanine stepped up above and beyond to make sure he achieved that even at the expense of her own sleep. It is clear that Jeanine has substantial experience and insight into working with puppies. Throughout our trip, we enjoyed receiving the regular updates and pictures of Barlow looking like he was enjoying himself, learning some new things, and maintaining his current skillset. In many ways, the fact that Barlow's skills that we taught him prior to leaving persisted upon our return is a testament to how much care Jeanine and Alex put into reinforcing positive behaviours. As an added bonus, Jeanine helped prepare us for our return back from our trip by setting up the various treats and meals that help occupy Barlow's attention. It was such a thoughtful touch and truly appreciated. I could not recommend them more and hope Barlow will get to spend time with them again!

Great to meet Jeanine. She was very comfortable with managing our dog Neve who has some leash reactivity to other dogs. Seems to have a great feel for dogs of all kinds. Looking forward to having her care for our animals.
