I grew up with lots of dogs and have seen them grow up and pass away. The main thing I have learned is how much love and connection is needed. Patience is key. To share a specific example: one day when I was on a road trip I saw a mama dog on the side of the road. She was partially hurt, hot, tired, and I noticed she had been pregnant. So what I didn’t do was call animal services because her pups were probably nearby and I didn’t want to separate them. What I did do was carefully gave her a big bowl of water and a little snack. She didn’t come right away because she was nervous so I went back into my car and let her investigate the food/water in her own time. I didn’t force her to do anything and listened to what she really needed: space and nutrients. I will never force your pet to do anything they don’t want to do and will work with them to do whatever is needed without making them uncomfortable. I strive for patience and as an actor, I have a great instinct for listening.
