I work part time, having one scheduled shift every 2 weeks and then having the opportunity to pick up shifts. I know my scheduled shifts far in advance, and I avoid picking up shifts if I am pet sitting.

I believe that it is important to maintain the routine that an animal is used to when pet sitting, and I do my best to accommodate that. I ensure to respect an animal's space when I am starting out with a new client and I take my cues from the pet. If starting out with a cat or a shy dog looks like me sitting in a corner and letting them sniff me, that's okay! I take things client by client to ensure that I can provide personalized services for you and your pets.

Information Jay S. would like to know about your pet
I like to know the basics of a dog's training. Some dogs are trained with different words, or words that aren't as intuitive for me. I find that it is important for me to know the basic commands (sit, stay, come, drop it/leave it) and what the exact wording is for each dog to avoid confusion or problems. I also like to know each dogs' limits. Is your dog reactive ? Scared of men/women ? Not a rainy day dog ? Only likes small dogs ? Thinks small dogs look like a good snack ? Knowing these things makes it possible for me to create good, safe experiences for your dog, for myself, and for those around us. And, of course, the classic questions are always important - diet and meds, special needs, habits, energy level, allergies and sensitivities, current/reoccuring injuries... Basically, all of the things that make sure I know enough about your dog even if it's only the first or second time I meet them.
A typical day
I tailor my routine to the client. Dog parks, visits to pet stores or markets, walks around town, and even beach field trips or trips to larger outdoor areas are all things that I have done with pets I have taken care of before. If your pet has a favourite place or activity, let me know and I will work it into the plan!

Pet care experience
I am a registered nurse with experience in crisis and emergency situations. I have two cats of my own, and I would love to habe a dog but my current living situation wouldn't be ideal for a dog. I have previously taken care of dogs and cats for family members, friends, coworkers, and through professional experience outside of Rover (yay Kijiji). I am not shy with young animals, be it getting chewed on by a teething puppy or handling toilet training needs. I am confident administering medications to animals, and as one of my own cats is special needs, I am familiar with the importance of seemingly strange requests or needs for animals.
