I am a freelance musician, which means my weekend evenings can be quite full especially in the summer, but my weekdays are quite open and most of my work here can be done on the move or with flexible hours. This makes it really easy for me to make time in the week, in hours where typically people tend to be at work.

Safety, trust & environment

I do not currently offer boarding in my home due to my own dog not being comfortable with it - she’s not a danger but it would certainly stress her out! I use positive reinforcement wherever possible and am comfortable crating a dog who has been trained to do so, or is in the process. I have no issue administering medication and can provide my own treats if suitable, or stick to any dietary requirements your pet has.

Information Jarrad L. would like to know about your pet

Please let me know if your dog has any dietary requirement, preferred treats, dos and don’ts, and their regular routine so that I can avoid being a big disruption.

A typical day

I like to make sure dogs have enough exercise or stimulation as the want in a day. Sniffing often tires and fulfils a dog quicker than walking so this can be more centred around exploring new smells than it is about covering ground. I also think it is important to just be a relaxed presence for a dog and to spend time doing nothing but simply being near them. This helps make them feel safe and comfortable - just because they are near you doesn’t mean they want to be touched all the time!

Experienced with resource guarding and big Dogs!

Pet care experience

I’ve had dogs since the age of 7 and have always loved caring for them. My first family dog, Rosie, was a well behaved chocolate Labrador with 0 faults. My second family dog (when I was a teenager) was a staffy cross called Bo who despite being very loving with people, was a danger to other dogs and needed extra care. When I moved out and got my own dog, I rescued a 45kg malamute/GSD cross called Mishka, who was described as ‘the worst case of resource guarding the centre has seen’. Mishka had a council order meaning he wasn’t allowed in public without a muzzle & lead. I trained at dogs trust to learn how to handle and understand him, and we became family very quickly. Unfortunately our time together was cut short when he fell ill & passed, but working with him and helping him to transition into a loving family adored by all my friends & relatives is one of my proudest achievements. Me and my fiancée went back to dogs trust and ended up rescuing a cocker spaniel named Tammy, who was also described as a terrible resource guarder. Tammy is a lot younger than Mishka so we are able to do a lot more with her and she is currently loving life at home, though she picks and chooses who she wants to be friends with 👀 My love and understanding for dogs is a key part of my personality, taking a misunderstood dog and earning their trust is the best feeling in the world and I’d love to work with more!

Highly recommend - Jarrad is fantastic! You can really tell he loves what he does. He has looked after Hugo for the last two weeks and has previously in the year. Knowing we have someone who our 11 month Doberman adores and is cared for as if it’s his own. We love the updates / photos we get after each visit and appreciate the questions / info if he notices anything different that he thinks we need to know about. Highly recommend!

Jarrad is excellent. Really professional and friendly. He’s clearly a big dog lover and knowledgeable too. Our dog loves him, she’s so happy to see him and after he’s been for a visit and walk she’s calm and happy when we get home. Jarrad updates the app with walk routes, photos and asks questions if I haven’t been as clear as I thought/anything has changed. We are really happy that he’s been able to care for our dog a few times and it’s been the same each time. 100% recommend him.
