Pet care experience

Your peace of mind is priceless

When you're away from home: 1. Do you want peace of mind when you have to leave your precious pup(s) behind? 2. Are you looking for a sitter who has a deep understanding of of dog psychology and canine behavior, and who uses only positive reinforcement to better care for and empathize with your fur baby? 3. Do you need someone with a medical background to give your dog medication(s)? I can help you. Your furry family member will benefit from my lifelong desire to care for others (I'm a retired ER doctor), as well as my love of animals and education. Over the past 11 1/2 years, dog sitting has gone from a hobby to an enjoyable, well-informed business for me. I pride myself on being knowledgeable about canine behavior. To prove it, I've just graduated from the Animal Behavior College (with honors!) as a certified dog trainer. When I care for your sweet pup, I'll only use positive reinforcement to optimize our bonding experience. Because of my medical background and helpful training from my dog's vet and her staff, I'm able to administer many types of medications including insulin shots, pills, eye and ear drops, ointments, nebulizer treatments, etc. However, if your dog does require medical treatment, I will bring them to their vet or nearest veterinary emergency hospital. My business is bonded and insured. PLEASE NOTE: If I come to dog sit in your home, my dog, Theo, comes with me. He's 14 1/2 years old and 18 pounds. He'll provide mellow, friendly, and non-threatening companionship for your fur baby.

Safety, trust & environment

My business is bonded and insured. I've just graduated from Animal Behavior College (with. honors!) as a Certified Dog Trainer. This involved 1,000+ pages of bookwork followed by a 6-month, one-on-one mentorship with a certified trainer. You and your sweet pet benefit because I understand the best ways to approach and care for your dog, and I'm able to interpret canine behavior which makes it safer when we go for walks, to the dog park, or have other animal interactions. When Theo and I watch your dog, we'll abide by your rules

Leaving a 3-month-old German Shorthaired Pointer puppy for a week while traveling overseas was not something I took lightly, but she exceeded every expectation I had. From the moment I left, she treated Dwight like he was her own dog. She wasn’t just there to feed him and let him out—she actively played with him, exercised him, worked with him, and genuinely bonded with him. Anyone familiar with GSP puppies knows they are bundles of energy, require constant attention, and can be a handful. She embraced the challenge with enthusiasm and patience. What impressed me most was her communication. While I was in Europe, she kept me updated throughout the week with messages, photos, and videos, which gave me tremendous peace of mind. I never once wondered how Dwight was doing because she was always keeping me informed. When I returned home, Dwight was happy, healthy, well cared for, and clearly adored her. My home was also exactly as I left it. It’s obvious that she truly loves animals and takes her responsibilities seriously. I would trust her with Dwight again without hesitation and would enthusiastically recommend her to anyone looking for a reliable, caring, energetic, and professional pet sitter. She turned what could have been a stressful week away into a completely worry-free experience.

Jan was fantastic! I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a responsible, professional, kind and caring pet sitter. Jan stayed at my house and lovingly cared my cat. She took daily photos which she shared with me regularly, and was wonderful with my very shy cat. In fact after a few days, my cat warmed up to her and let her pet him (he doesn’t usually let anyone other than us pet him). I cannot say enough about how we so appreciated Jan. On her last day, she made sure we had returned to the US from our trip before she left our house. She had washed the sheets and towels, made the bed she slept in, and left everything clean. We will definitely be using her again. THANK YOU, Jan!!!

Jan is amazing! One of our dogs needed shots twice a day, pill medication and eye drops 3 times a day. It was a lot to keep up with and she remembered it all! Jan and her dog Theo stayed at our house for a week to dog sit our 2 dogs. Everyone got along. Jan was patient to let our dogs warm up to her. When we ran out of dog food, she texted me to let me know and offered to pick up more herself. She kept me updated through the whole day on everything. When I returned home, the house was immaculate. She even stripped the sheets off her bed and put clean ones on. It was a wonderful experience having Jan stay in our house to take care of our dogs!

Jan was a truly excellent petsitter! So communicative, she sent so many photos and detailed updates, and right from the meet n greet it was obvious my dog Peter adored her. She’d got a wonderful energy and is such a kind person. I would recommend Jan to anyone who wants to completely trust that their pet (and their home) is in good hands.

Schedule

Because I'm retired, I will be there to care for your fur baby 24/7. I may make a quick run to the grocery store or have an appointment, but I won't be gone longer than a few hours. Once a dog sit is booked, I schedule any following appointments at other times.

Cats
0 to 15 lbs
16 to 40 lbs
41 to 100 lbs
over 101 lbs
Jan can host up to 3 drop-ins per day
I ask about medical issues and if the pet needs medication(s) administered while I'm taking care of them. Through the teachings of my veterinarian and with my 30+ years of ER experience, I am proficient at administering pills, capsules, eye and ear drops, insulin shots, ointments, etc. Also, on a medical note, I ask if your dog is allergic to anything. I also request the. name and phone number of your vet, and if you've used any of the nearby emergency. animal hospitals. I also ask about behavioral issues such as resource guarding of food, toys, bed, etc. Knowing how the dog responds on walks to other people and/or other dogs, is also of concern to me. I'm interested in replicating the dog's daily routine as much as possible to give them comfort while their pet parents are away.
Each sitter joining Rover needs to pass an identity verification. And by booking on Rover, you can get photo & message updates, 24/7 support and reimbursement for eligible vet care.
