Safety, trust & environment

Caring for pets in either my home or the client's home involves a personalized and attentive approach tailored to the specific needs of each furry friend. Whether I'm a dog walker or a pet sitter, the well-being and happiness of the pet are my top priorities.

Information Jan E. would like to know about your pet

Health History: Your pet's health history, any existing medical conditions, and medications they may be taking. Dietary Needs: Your pet's dietary requirements, including the type of food, portion sizes, and feeding schedule. Some pets have allergies or specific dietary restrictions, so it's important to let me know ahead of time. Exercise Requirements: Different breeds and individual pets have varying exercise needs. Some dogs, for example, require more daily physical activity than others. Help me tailor your pet's exercise routine to their breed, age, and energy levels. Behavioral Traits: Your pet's behavioral tendencies. This includes how they interact with other animals, people, and their response to various stimuli. Knowing their likes and dislikes can help me create a comfortable environment for them. Training Level: Your pet's training level. Are they well-behaved and trained in basic commands, or do they need additional training? Grooming Needs: Your pet's grooming requirements, such as brushing, nail trimming, and bathing. Comfort Zones: Your pet's comfort zones and safe spaces. Knowing where your pet feels secure and relaxed can help in situations that may cause stress or anxiety. Socialization: Your pet's socialization skills. Some pets are outgoing and love meeting new people and animals, while others may be more reserved. Identification: Ensure your pet has proper identification, such as a collar with tags and/or a microchip. This is crucial in case they get lost.

A typical day

Morning Walk: Start your day with a refreshing walk. It's not only great exercise for your dog but also an opportunity for you to enjoy some fresh air and nature. Breakfast Time: Feed your dog a nutritious meal, ensuring they get the energy they need for the day ahead. Playtime: Engage in some playtime, whether it's a game of fetch, tug-of-war, or simply enjoying each other's company with some interactive toys. Training Session: Spend a little time reinforcing basic commands or teaching new tricks. This mental stimulation is as important as physical exercise for your dog. Quiet Time: Dogs need rest too. Allow your dog some quiet time to relax and recharge, especially during the afternoon. Afternoon Stroll: Take another walk in the afternoon. It's a great way to break up the day, get some exercise, and provide mental stimulation for your dog. Socializing: If possible, arrange for your dog to socialize with other dogs. This could be at a dog park or through playdates with friends' dogs. Dinner: Feed your dog a balanced dinner. Consider using mealtime as another opportunity for training or mental stimulation. Quality Time: Spend quality time with your dog in the evening. Whether it's cuddling on the couch or playing a game, this bonding time is essential. Night Routine: Before bedtime, take your dog for a short walk to help them relax. Make sure they have a comfortable sleeping area.

Pet care experience

Hi, I’m Jan—though people call me Yahn. I’m a New Orleans pet and house sitter with 12 years of experience caring for dogs, cats and multi-pet households. My goal is simple: to give your pets dependable, loving care while giving you complete peace of mind. I take time to learn each animal’s personality, normal routine and individual needs—from energetic dogs that need plenty of exercise to shy cats, senior pets and animals requiring extra patience or specialized attention. I’m experienced with: • Extended and overnight house sitting • Dogs of all sizes and energy levels • Cats and multi-pet households • Senior and special-needs pets • Oral and injected medication • Dog walking and daily exercise • Drop-in visits and customized routines I’m certified in Pet First Aid and CPR, background checked, and grateful to have earned five-star reviews and the trust of repeat clients. Pet parents regularly describe me as responsible, communicative and someone who cares for their pets and home as if they were my own. During every booking, you can expect dependable communication, thoughtful photo updates and clear summaries of how everyone is doing. For extended stays, I work carefully to preserve your pets’ usual feeding, exercise, medication and bedtime routines. I also treat your home with respect and keep it clean, comfortable and secure while you’re away. Whether your dog prefers an energetic adventure, your cat wants quiet companionship or your entire furry family needs someone dependable for a longer stay, I’ll tailor my care to what makes them feel happiest and safest. Send me a message to arrange a meet-and-greet. I’d love to learn about your pets, their routines and what would make you feel completely comfortable while you’re away.

Jan was absolutely fantastic. I have a very unique pack of working and primitive breed dogs, and they definitely aren't the easiest group to care for. After just one meet-and-greet, Jan understood their personalities and made both me and my dogs feel completely at ease. What really impressed me was that he confidently took them on walks,...something that very few Rover sitters I've worked with have been comfortable doing. He handled each dog's quirks with patience, confidence, and a calm demeanor that my dogs responded to immediately. It's rare to find someone who truly understands working breeds and dogs with unique personalities, but Jan absolutely does. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him, especially if you have high-energy, independent, or quirky dogs that need someone experienced and confident. I'll definitely be booking with him again.

There is no one else in the world I trust as much with my children as I do Jan. I genuinely know he’s going to put their interests first, and he’s going to look after my house to boot. I cannot recommend him highly enough. He’s a good human and a great sitter.

Jan looks after my babies and my place as if they were his own. I love getting updates on his adventures with my little gang of miscreants, and the peace of mind I have knowing that my cats are safe and well-cared for is utterly priceless.

Jan is genuinely one of the nicest people and most responsible caretakers I have ever met. He is an excellent steward of my space, and my cats, even the one with diagnosed anxiety, always seem calm and happy when I return. I cannot recommend him highly enough.
