Information James N. would like to know about your pet

I require a free meet-and-greet before confirming any booking so we can make sure everyone is a good fit. This gives your dog a chance to get comfortable with me and the environment, and it allows me to learn about their routine and personality. Please let me know about your dog’s energy level, feeding schedule, any medications, and how they typically do with new people, walks, and time in a new home. Since your dog will be staying in my home, I look for dogs that are generally well-behaved, house-trained, and comfortable in a calm household environment.

A typical day

A Typical Day at Jimmy’s Doggy Staycation Dogs staying here quickly settle into a routine that’s equal parts activity and relaxation. Morning: We start the day with a neighborhood walk to stretch the legs and check out the latest neighborhood scents. After that it’s breakfast time, followed by a little exploring and playtime in the fully fenced backyard. Late Morning: Once the important business of walking and eating is done, most dogs switch to their favorite activity: napping. Some prefer a sunny spot on the floor, while others choose to keep a close eye on me and follow me around the house like my personal supervisor. Afternoon: More relaxing, another backyard break, and possibly another nap. (Dogs staying here quickly learn that naps are strongly encouraged.) Evening: We’ll head out for another walk around the block or enjoy some playtime in the yard before dinner. Night: After dinner there may be a little more lounging, a final trip outside, and then everyone settles in for the night. Overall, the schedule usually looks something like: walk → eat → play → nap → supervise Jimmy → nap → walk → dinner → sleep. It’s a calm, comfortable home where your dog will get plenty of attention, fresh air, and a relaxed environment.

Pet care experience

Hi! I’m originally from Ohio, where I attended pharmacy school at the University of Toledo and met my wife, who is now a local REALTOR. We moved to sunny Florida in 1992 and have lived in Seminole, Redington Beach, and happily call St. Petersburg home since 2016. I recently retired after a long career as a pharmacist, including the past 22 years working at MacDill Air Force Base. My wife and I have a son who served in the Army and now works in aviation, and our daughter-in-law is an elementary school teacher. Dogs have always been an important part of my life. Over the years I’ve had a yellow Labrador, a golden retriever, and most recently a black Lab who passed away in January 2026 at age 13. I miss having a dog around but am not quite ready for another just yet, which makes caring for other people’s pets especially rewarding. I offer doggy daycare, overnight boarding in my home, and local dog walks in the Arcadia Gardens and Allendale areas of St. Petersburg. Your dog will be the only dog in our home, which can be ideal for pets who prefer a calm environment or don’t enjoy being around other dogs. We also have a fully fenced yard, giving dogs plenty of safe space to explore and play. I’m comfortable with dogs of all sizes and temperaments and have years of experience caring for medium to large breeds. Whether it’s walks, playtime in the yard, or simply relaxing and keeping them company, I treat every dog as if they were my own.

James was absolutely fantastic with our fur babies! From the moment we booked with him, his communication was outstanding. He kept us updated throughout their stay with plenty of texts, photos, and updates, which gave us so much peace of mind while we were away. One of the biggest signs that you're leaving your pets with the right person is how quickly they warm up to them, and our dogs took a liking to James almost immediately. That alone spoke volumes about the care, patience, and attention he gives to the animals he watches. He was also incredibly accommodating with our hectic travel schedule. Coordinating drop-off for an easy off and pick-up was completely stress-free. We couldn't have asked for a better experience. I cannot recommend James highly enough, and we'll absolutely be booking with him again in the future!

Jimmy did an excellent job with my special needs dog (medication several times a day, separation anxiety, handling sensitivities). I appreciated that he took careful notes, asked questions and made sure to understand Gary’s needs. He and his wife were calm, caring, and kind. I could tell Gary felt very comfortable with both of them and had enjoyed his stay when I picked him up. I’ll definitely be re-booking with them.

Jimmy took excellent care of Mia and she felt right at home! We got regular updates with pictures and they were very diligent about following her routine and giving her medications.
