Pet care experience
24/7 Boarding with a 3-person team!
I’ve been caring for the pets of family and friends since I was a child - it’s always been my responsibility (usually instead of dishes or making the bed). I have hands-on experience with everything from rambunctious rescue dogs and elderly cats to baby animals, parrots, lizards, and most rodents. While I won’t call myself an “animal whisperer,” more than one person has said, “That’s amazing - my pet never warms up to people like that.” I live and work from home with my spouse and our housemate, both lifelong cat owners. We all take part in daily pet care and between our three overlapping schedules and unconventional sleep cycles, there’s almost always someone awake in the house - ideal for pets who need extra attention or monitoring overnight, and useful just in case of an emergency. We take pride in providing safe, attentive, and individualized care. Your pet will be treated as part of the household, not just boarded.

Jake was an excellent petsitter and provided quality care and consistent updates! Thank you for everything!

The best!! Look no further.
Jake was very reassuring and made Sages boarding one less thing we had to stress over while we were on vacation. Even though Sage was grumpy and difficult for her first long boarding, Jake’s communication was clear and laid back. If we ever need to board Sage again we would definitely consider booking with Jake! Thanks for making this such a positive experience and our first Rover experience in general.

Our Izzy is a difficult cat. Jake took great care of her and spent time trying to acclimate her to the change. He definitely loves cats and understands a lot about their behavior. That certainly helped Izzy survive the week in our absence.
Thank you so much Jake for caring for our beloved kitten. It was hard to leave him but we knew he was in good hands.

Firstly, as people go, Moon and Jake are top tier. They are both approachable, friendly and just overall very nice people. That said, there were some conflicting pros and cons that brought us to this rating. Things we loved: We had to find a last minute sitter for our two oldest fur babies, Myster and Jynx, who had never stayed overnight with unfamiliar sitters before. Because if this, we were worried about finding suitable caretakers for them. We knew they’d be anxious being in an unfamiliar environment overnight, so we felt lucky that Jake was able to accommodate us on short notice. His experience seemed a perfect fit for our needs and they live only a few minutes from us. Jake’s description of the space is spot on, and with proper care, their home could be the ultimate cat haven. Jake was also very responsive to our messages throughout each phase of the process, which gave us some peace of mind. Things we didn’t love: Firstly, they actually have 3 cats, not 2 as listed, and in addition to the 3 cats they own, they were already housing 3 other cats when we booked. This seems like something that should have been disclosed to us prior to booking, especially after I expressed that our babies were new to this experience, would be anxious, and we were unsure how they’d fair around other cats as a result. So we did not appreciate finding out during drop off that there would be 6 other cats in the house. Secondly, when we asked if we should bring our own litter boxes, we were told they had some, and though there were several other litter boxes in the space, we are glad we brought our own. The condition of the litter was less than ideal, to put it nicely, and the overall cleanliness of the house was sorely lacking. We could visibly see several areas throughout the home where one of the pets had urinated and/or defecated on the floor, which I suspect is because of the condition of the litter boxes. Third, we would have loved more photos and updates without prompting, especially given the circumstances. We didn’t love that we had to reach out for this. Lastly, and most importantly, their cat, ET, is the household bully. Jake will outright tell you this. I thought it was a joke at first, despite the matter of fact manner in which he told us, until I saw it for myself. After expressing our concerns about our cats’ anxiety being in a new space, this didn’t feel comforting to us, and Jake seemed a bit cavalier about the situation. We figured he was simply desensitized from having had so much experience with different types of cats. Still, my gut told me we should leave and try to find some place else, until Moon stepped in and offered to let Myster stay in a separate bedroom. She assured us that the other cats would respect his hissing if they entered. We appreciated this accommodation, and given the time constraints we were under, and that they’d only be staying one night, we hoped it would suffice. When we came to pick our babies up, however, Myster’s response to ET’s presence was more than unsettling, and his behavior has been erratic ever since. While we can’t with certainty attribute Myster’s change in behavior to his stay, we have curious concerns about if something happened between Myster and E.T. In retrospect, we probably should have followed our instincts and the signs that this was not a good fit for our fur babies. We contemplated whether or not to leave this review because as I stated, Jake and Moon are very nice people. But since we wish we had known much of this prior to booking, we realized that people deserve the right to make informed decisions, especially regarding the care of their fur babies. With that, though we would not book here again, we sincerely hope that Jake and Moon are receptive to this feedback, and open to making the necessary adjustments to better care for others who choose to entrust them with their pets’ care.

Schedule
I work fully remotely as a systems administrator, and outside of the occasional errand, I’m home 24/7. I'm also a light sleeper and accustomed to getting up at odd hours - my job requires me to be on-call in case a server explodes, so I'm always prepared to respond quickly if something comes up with your pet, even in the middle of the night. My spouse and housemate are both working artists who are home most of the time as well. Between the three of us, someone is almost always present *and* awake. Whether it’s supervision, companionship, or late-night care, your pet won’t be left unattended, and you can drop off and pick up at any hour.

Home characteristics
Safety, trust & environment
I have a fenced-in yard of roughly 2500-ish square feet with plenty of natural and artificial shade as well as room to sunbathe and more than enough room to run around in. My home is designed with pets in mind. The fenced-in yard is approximately 2,500 square feet, with both natural and artificial shade, open space for running, and sunny areas for lounging - ideal for dogs or leash-trained cats. Indoors, the environment is tailored primarily for cats. The house includes a large sunroom and living room, both furnished with multiple cat towers and structures that have been thoroughly “claimed” by our resident cats. The kitchen is considered neutral territory, and additional cat furnishings are found in both bedrooms. For pets who need privacy or separation, we have flexible spaces available. This includes a walk-in closet that can be converted into a quiet private room, an office with a fully outfitted multi-level “Cat Fortress” (which can be closed off), and what we call the “Cat Hotel” - a padded extra-large cage (about three or four adults big) for animals who are sick, recovering, ornery, or require close monitoring. We’re fully stocked with pet supplies: food, litter, toys, leashes, cleaning products, and extra bedding. Whether your pet needs active playtime, a quiet place to rest, or specialized care, we’re equipped to provide it safely and attentively.
Pets
A typical day
I typically take walkable animals out for a thirty minute walk just around my neighborhood, which has nice, even sidewalks and plenty of smells and grass. I also have a fenced-in yard where animals can be taken off-leash to run around while supervised, chasing squirrels and performing other animal-ly things.
