Trained, experienced dog behaviourist

I have extensive experience with dogs of a range of temperaments, behaviours, breeds and sizes. For the 6 years I worked for the UK's largest dog welfare charity and am a trained and qualified dog behaviourist. I have worked with hundreds, if not thousands of dogs during my time there, working to train and rehabilitate them. Therefore, I am not only highly experienced in day to day dog care and husbandry, but am comfortable working alongside more challenging dogs and am very open minded to giving any dog a chance. I have worked with dogs showing aggression to people and other dogs, dogs that are extremely nervous or fearful, dogs with separation anxiety and dogs with reactivity issues to name only a few. I am always happy to take things slowly with any dog and take time to build a bond and relationship with them, no matter how long that takes. I have also owned my own dogs for most of my life until the past year when I lost my last dog and am now looking to help other owners out by taking their dogs in. My current job role is hybrid, with 2 days a week in the office but this is pretty flexible so I am always happy to work around people. I usually can’t do Wednesdays but if you were looking for more than just a day, then I would be happy to try and work around this to make sure I was at home fully. I live alone in a ground floor flat with no steps and have direct access to my own outdoor space (although not secure) and am there all day, meaning it is appropriate for most dogs. There are no children or other pets around so it is a very peaceful and relaxed environment for a dog.

Great sitter yet again. Jack looked after Peggy really well, particularly given that she was still recovering from an injured paw and had stitches. Even in extreme heat, Jack walked her at sensible times of the day and kept her entertained at other points. Good communication throughout / kept us updated. Peggy had a wonderful time and we’d definitely book Jack again.

Jack looked after our nine-month old border collie puppy - Peggy - with great love and care. Good communication beforehand to ensure that the stay would work out well for everyone. This included a ‘meet and greet’ beforehand. We also had updates during Peggy’s stay. Jack has lots of experience with dogs and this showed. Peggy clearly enjoyed her time with Jack. I can’t recommend him enough!

Jack is Diamond Dog’s regular sitter. She is so happy to see him and drags me in first thing, ready for her morning fuss. She’s well cared for and returns a very happy girl.

Jack was absolutely fantastic with my golden retriever puppy! From the moment we booked, communication was great - he was responsive, friendly, and clearly experienced with dogs. I wouldn’t hesitate to book with him again and highly recommend him to anyone looking for a reliable and caring sitter.

Schedule

I work full-time in a job that is hybrid, requiring 2 days a week in the office. However this is flexible, so I can pick and choose my days and can fully work from home sometimes if needed. My hours are also flexible so I can work around you and your dog within reason and ensure I have plenty of the time for any dogs I care for and interact with them throughout the day.

Safety, trust & environment

I have a very laid back approach to dogs being in my home. My flat is open plan and doors are always open so the dogs have choice and freedom to explore and do what they want. I also have direct access to my own outside space to take the dogs out, however this is not secure so they would be going out there on lead and supervised. I also have my own private entrance so the dogs would not need to come through a communal entrance if it wasn't appropriate. There are also no steps to my flat at all, making it very accessible for any dog. The dogs will always be supervised and never left alone or unattended unless I was 100% confident they would be happy and cope with that. I do of course respect owners rules and boundaries with their dogs and would reflect any of those in my own home if they so wished.

A typical day

Working mostly from home throughout the day means I have plenty of opportunities to play with your dog and provide them with a wide variety of mental stimulation and enrichment. We can also go on several walks throughout the day if wanted, with at least one walk a day of a minimum of half an hour if appropriate. Equally if your dog just wants to sleep and cuddle up then that is fine also and they can have as much affection and attention as they would like. If they would rather have time to themselves and settle in their own space, then that is fine too and they will have access to all rooms around the house to go where they like if you are happy with that.

Please let me know in advance if your dog is a high energy breed that requires a lot of physical exercise and stimulation so I can factor than in when planning my day. I am more than happy to take on nervous dogs or dogs with a history of aggression if deemed safe and appropriate, but again please let me know in advance so we can plan for me to meet them first to get to know them and ensure they are comfortable. Please also tell me in advance of any medical needs your dog may have or if they are not house trained.
