Safety, trust & environment

I offer drop in calls/welfare checks in your own home/office as well as dog walking. One offs or regular bookings welcome. I can work from initiative or to your own detailed instructions. Walks can be arranged after an initial meeting. I am very honest, upfront, trustworthy and safety conscious. Via Rover walkers are not covered for off lead walking. However, I do have my own insurance that does cover for off lead walking provided that there is written evidence of agreement, and that I abide to basic safety ie away from roads and other dangers. Each walk must be on the spot assessed for safety concerns. Usually off lead walks are mixed on and off lead. As a risk arises the dog/s will be leashed, and unleashed when the risk passes. Your dog must have perfect recall for off lead walking and I need to be given all of your command words eg "come", "heel" or a certain whistle. I have no problem with home cctv in fact I would encourage it to keep an eye on your home alone dog...and to laugh at me being a soppy softy with them! 😂

Information Jack K. would like to know about your pet

If your dog has any particular needs whatsoever please let me know. I'm sure they can be accommodated. Having a challenging dog I am confident with mild behavioural needs, obsessive compulsive neurotic behaviour. I would not accept a dog that is aggressive towards people. But I would accept dogs that display fear/protective aggression towards other dogs.

A typical day

Walks - I am happy to walk your dogs where ever you prefer them to be walked. Alternatively, I am happy to drive them to one of my favourite places. I usually pick walks according to the dogs preferences and the weather. For example nervous dogs I would take to one of the quieter walks. For friendly social dogs I would seek out busier walking routes. During hot weather we can take trips to the air conditioned pet shop for a sniff around and treats or a walk through shaded woods. I encourage lots of sniffing and for the dog to have as much autonomy over the walk as possible. Letting them lead me on a route that they choose. I have a lunge lead to allow for roaming if required and meadow walks are perfect for this. Please bear in mind, if you wish for me to drive your dog somewhere, the length of time you are booking. As the drive will be included within the time booked. On drop in calls I am happy to follow any instructions left for me. I am also happy to work off my own initiative. Refreshing water, toileting, medication, feeding, fuss and play. Even the dreaded washing up if you so wish!

Pet care experience

I have been keeping various pets for over 30 years and running my business Walkies With Jack for 3+ years, most of my clients have been with me for years and would be happy to give references. I have experience with dogs of all ages from puppy to elderly. I also have experience with careing for dogs with medical & psychological issues such as dementia, stroke, epilepsy, abuse survivors etc. The key is to be calm, kind & nurturing in every situation and understand them as individuals. I currently have a very cheeky 6 year old Jack Russell, who likes to keep me busy and entertained outside of work. She offers her own unique challenges which has given me experience in dealing with unpredictable behaviours. I love the outdoors and discovering new walks to keep things fresh and entertaining. My favourite part of being a dog walker is making friends with them, forming a bond and having the best fun we can find! That happy smiley look is what I live for!! I genuinely look forward to seeing them and enjoy my work days more than days off!

Jack is a real find. He took the time to come and meet our puppy, Albie, before his first drop-in visit. Albie took to Jack immediately and it was clear that Jack loves dogs and is very experienced with handling them. We had a really comprehensive update after Jack’s drop-in visit with lots of photos. Really happy puppy and happy owners too. Thanks to Jack - we’re really happy that he’s part of Albie’s extended family now!

Jack was fantastic with Otto. He took him on fulfilling and interesting walks and provided updates and photos for us. Jack communicated brilliantly with my in-laws, who were looking after Otto while we were on holiday. Will be booking Jack again without a doubt.

My dog Roxi took to Jack on the initial meet and greet( which is unusual!) so I felt reassured going on holiday that she would be happy, and she was! Jack is a natural with animals and understands their needs perfectly. Jack also adapted walks and times to suit the hot weather conditions. Would highly recommend Jack.
