Animal lover, personalizes care

Hello I’m Iris! I’m an animal lover who is passionate about spending time with animals and ensuring they feel comfortable, loved and cared for. I grew up working on a friend’s farm in Oregon where I cared for dogs, cats, goats, chickens, peacocks, horses and ducks. I have extensive experience caring for different breeds of small and large dogs and cats. I am a cat behaviorist and cat sitter and have over 5 years experience caring for emergency medical cases for kittens and cats through my volunteer work with a nonprofit cat rescue in NYC called Little Wanderers NYC. As part of my volunteer work, I am trained to provide a wide variety of medical care to cats and kittens including subcutaneous injections, vaccines, eye infection treatment, neonatal cat care, bottle feeding for newborn kittens, and oral medications. I am a master at clipping nails for so if your pet needs some grooming I’m happy to provide some spa treatment. I enjoy spending time with animals and making sure they have everything they need to be healthy, engaged and happy. I am detail oriented and will treat each animal with special attention; providing care tailored to each individual pet’s unique personality and preferences. Outside of my part-time work caring for dogs and cats, I am a scientist and high school science teacher. I have a PhD in Molecular and Cell Biology from UC Berkeley and BS in Biochemistry so I have an extensive background in medical science. My research background includes specializations in infectious diseases and cancer biology. As a scientist (molecular and cell biologist, biochemist, structural biologist, biophysicist), I have over 18 years of experience in biomedical research and teaching. I look forward to meeting your pup or kitty!

Pets

Safety, trust & environment

Your furry friend’s safety and comfort are my #1 priority. I have extensive experience helping pets adjust to new spaces/people and will be patient and thoughtful as your pet adjusts to being around a new person in their home. As a volunteer with Little Wandering NYC animal rescue, I have supported and coached many families through the process of helping their pet adjust to changes in their environment or with moving to a new home after adoption. Moreover, I have also supported families with introducing their new adopted cat to other animals in the home so everyone (all pets) can adjust to the change in a way that is the healthiest for all pets and humans involved in the introduction and change in environment.

Iris was a godsend for us! This was the first time using a petsitter for our 3 cats and Iris was much more than we expected. She took excellent care of Tiger, our senior cat with health issues and entertained our 2 younger and shy cats. By the end of the week Rocky was sitting in her lap! We can't say enough positive things about Iris, she was the best! Anyone using her won't be disappointed.

I wish I could give Iris more than 5 stars because she was that great. My dogs are not the easiest to take care of and are definitely weary of strangers. Iris took the time to get to know them and make sure they were very comfortable while my family went away on vacation. Iris sent many updates to let us know the dogs were ok which we really appreciated! Not only did Iris take care of the dogs but also our lizard, fish and even watered our gardens. I was able to relax and enjoy our trip knowing that we had such a reliable and trustworthy sitter taking care of our fur babies and home! Thank you so much Iris.. we will be booking you again!

Iris went above and beyond for Morgan. We are so glad we used her because she gave Morgan personal attention. Turns out he needed a lot of patience because she smelled like other cats she was visiting and he didn’t like that! She used blankets and pillows to have him climb on her lap for treats and ensured he was getting all the play time he desired! Also we went thought a heat wave while we were away so she gave us updates on the ac unit and gave him wet food and wet treats everyday. Iris made sure we felt comfortable and that our pet was safe and in great hands.

Polite. Punctual. Pleasantly surprised that she was knowledgeable about various breeds and their peculiarities. It felt easy to leave pets with her because she didn't just mind them she made sure they were safe, engaged, and having a good time playing.

Iris is passionate about everything she encounters. She’s a very loving and caring human who has a great love for animals big and small. I believe she would be a great dog caregiver.

Let me know if your pet has any medical conditions that require daily medications and how I should administer the medication. If you pet has any behavioral characteristics (separation anxiety, afraid of strangers, etc) that I should be aware of please let me know so I can do my best to make sure they feel comfortable. I am healthy and can care for most pets but if you have a dog (70 lbs and up) that pulls on a leash with tremendous strength please let me know ahead of time. If a dog weight more than me I wouldn’t want to become overpowered by the strength of the dog. Perhaps you may have tips or commands from their training so help me ensure we both have a safe and enjoyable walk.
