Pet care experience

Student vet and qualified veterinary nurse

I have been a registered veterinary nurse since 2021 and am currently a second year vet student. Currently, I have my own 15 year old cat who is epileptic and hyperthyroid meaning I am confident giving medications and caring for senior pets or those with extra needs. I also adore dogs and am happy to do walking or house-sitting. I understand all dogs have their own personalities; some may be more confident than others. I am very patient and happy to meet more anxious dogs and work with owners to get to know them to ensure they are comfortable with me. I have completed a fear free handelling certificate which is applicable to cats and dogs so am confident interpreting the body language of pets to minimise stress. I am happy doing walking, drop-ins and house sitting.

Pets

Safety, trust & environment

I am happy to come and care for pets in their owner's homes as this causes less stress for the pet. Before pet sitting, I would like to have a video call or in-person meeting to go through the care which is expected. I feel effective communication ensures I am able to care for your pet correctly and meet any of their additional needs. In the meetings, you can show me where stuff such as leads and treats are and can ask my any questions you may have.

Iona looked after Maggie beautifully, she sent picture updates and made sure Maggie had everything she needed. I will definitely use Iona again 😊

Would 100% recommend Iona! I was so worried at the time as one of my cats unexpectedly needed a couple types of medication, but Iona had no problem administering - and even gave me tips on how to make it easier for me. My cats have 2 different diets (so don't share food) and one of which is very nervous, but she was patient and waited a bit longer to make sure she still ate.

Iona has a lot of knowledge about animals and is very caring and loving towards any pet. She is trustworthy and has walked my dogs many times, they always return happy and excited about the walks they have had. My dogs are always pleased to see Iona and know that they are going to have a great time. She is reliable and always on time. I wouldn't ask anyone else to walk my pets!

I have four cocker spaniels, one of which is very nervous around new people and takes a while to come around. Iona is brilliant with them all, Ruby the nervous one felt very relaxed and comfortable shortly after meeting her and settled great around her which is really uncommon for her. The other three absolutely love her and follow her around when she comes to visit them. Couldn’t recommend her enough. So knowledgeable and has lots of experience around animals.

Iona has looked after my cat Pisca on multiple occasions. She is very reliable, flexible and just so good with animals. Pisca loves Iona and knowing how well she takes care of her it gives me great relief knowing she’s in good hands.

Schedule

Currently I am a second-year veterinary medicine student meaning it is hard to commit to a strict part-time job with no flexibility. Evidently, by my course and being a veterinary nurse I adore animals and love being outside so feel dog walking and pet sitting will suit my personal interests and academic commitments.
