Currently I am out for 4 every tuesday morning where I do voluntary work . I would take the dogs out into the garden at 10.p.m also in the night should they so need. Again garden @ 8 am Then for a walk and run about 10.00 a.m. Probably a longer walk in the afternoon, then garden at 6 and 8 p.m

Safety, trust & environment

Trust has to be earnt and one needs time to establish a relationship with a dog. To to start with i would meet them at their level and offer play and cuddles if they want. The first walk is a great leveller. My garden is enclosed and in the summer I am out in most of the day. ave a river at the bottom which some dogs love. If a dog is inclined to wander then I would escort them into the garden and stay with them. Certainly, to start with I would not let a dog out into the garden unsupervised, and even if trust is established would constantly monitor them

Pet care experience

I grew up with dogs (and other pets) and love all animals, domestic and wild. I believe (and others, including dogs, confirm this) that dogs really like me. Dogs connect with humans like no other creature, however, to a degree you must meet them on their terms and let them come to you, initially. I have in recent history had friends & neighbours dogs to stay. My next door neighbour's dog sees my house as part of its home and I have played a big part in her care, with frequent walks. When I had a cat flap she would let herself in and out at will and often sleep on my bed at night. (She is very old now so comes around less frequently so having other dogs in site would not be a conflict). I am retired though physically still very able and, but for a little voluntary work, I am at home all day and every day. 2 years ago a friend had to go into hospital and I cared for his whippet pup over the summer and played an important role in house training and walking on and off the lead. I also assisted Meirion Hughes (on this site) throughout this summer as he was living with me so the dogs came to stay here. For me those several dog stays, which included day visits to 10 day stays of up to 3 dogs, I enjoyed so much that I really looked forward to the next one, and made me wonder why I had never thought of doing dog-sitting before and never knew such sites existed. I have a large house and garden which they have the complete run off. However, certainly until the dog(s) were settled, I would not let them out unsupervised. I live in a rural setting so lots of safe walks and runs in easy distance in the car and would offer 1 or 2 walks per day as needed. I have leads feeding bowls and dog toys. As far as diet is concerned I would be advised by (and medication) by the owners and follow their regime. If necessary and reasonable I would pick up and drop off in my car. Also happy to visit or be visited prior to any stay. I believe I am intuitive and know how to read dog's needs, return their affection and love playing with them if they are so inclined. We have a veterinary service about 5 miles away for emergencies; though I would expect to discuss contingency plans should there be health issue with the owner(s)

Daisy enjoyed her stay with Ian and was reluctant to come home. She enjoyed the garden and being outdoors. She will definitely be returning to stay again. Ian was warm, relaxed, gentle and welcoming. Daisy was immediately at ease when we arrived and explored the house and garden. Thank you Ian for taking care of our Daisy so well!

Can't thank Ian enough for looking after our girl. He made it so easy, was very communicative and you can see he is just a natural with dogs. It was a one off day of care as were on holiday in the area. Ian let us visit the evening before to familiarise our dog. She's not an overly affectionate girl until she knows someone and Ian just read her perfectly. We will camp in the area again and wouldn't hesitate to use Ian again or recommend he him to anyone.
