I cannot remember a time when I did not have a pet. I grew up with cats and dogs, even hamsters, and eventually our family purchased land where we raised and cared for goats, cattle, and donkeys. I absolutely love ALL animals, getting to care for them, love them, and establish a relationship as if they were my own pet. I've often had friends and neighbors rely on me to help them with pet sitting, walks, or daily drop-ins - I'll even sit your plants if you need the help.
