Building trust with an animal is etremely important. I am careful to keep an eye on body language so that I know when an animal wants more or less attention, needs to go for a walk, or needs to play. My own dog has been trained to walk on a loose leash by my side and does not pull. I've had plenty of experience walking shelter dogs who had no training though, so I can handle quite a bit. I regularly interact with my cats depending upon what type of interaction they want. I have two cats who love to play with toys on strings, and two other cats who prefer to be showered with pets. I am a believer that if you pay attention the animal will let you know what it's boundaries are.
Information Heather L. would like to know about your pet
I'm not a certified trainer, but I have trained my own dog who passed his canine good citizen certification and registered therapy dog training. I also have walked many shelter dogs with no training, so I am versed in taking care of pups who aren't exactly the best behaved on walks. I would request that you provide me with some treats for your dog that I can use on walks that can be cut up into small pieces easily that I can use for positive reinforcement on walks. Let me know if your pets have any special needs and what types of interactions they generally prefer or would not enjoy.
A typical day
I work from home so I can play with and pet your animals frequently as well as take them for potty breaks when needed. I walk my own dog once a day and often take him on short hikes.

Pet care experience
I have taken care of dogs since I was 10 years old. I was responsible for walking the family dog when I was younger, volunteered at a shelter walking dogs every Saturday morning for 5 years, and have owned a dog myself for the last 20 years. My current dog, Bruce, and I are a registered therapy dog team, which required a lot of training and building of trust between us. He's a border collie (though he's slowed down in his old age) that needs his daily walks and play time. I understand how stressful it can be to leave your pets with someone. You need to be able to trust them and I promise to take care of your dog with as much love and care as I take care of my own. I have 4 cats, so you pup MUST be good with cats.

Very good sitter
Heather is my best friend and has watched my dog and cat numerous times. She has a genuine love and passion for animals and her caring and compassionate nature makes her an excellent choice for pet care. She has pets herself (a dog and four cats) and is very knowledgeable about pet care needs. Heather was always available for any questions or concerns when watching my animals and updated me on my pets' well-being with pictures to show they were doing great. Heather always respected my home, belongings, and privacy, and created a secure environment for my pets. She was able to administer medication to my cat with ease, and had no hesitation in going the extra mile to ensure my pets’ well-being and happiness. I strongly endorsement Heather’s ability to care for animals and I encourage potential clients to trust her with their pets.
Heather is the best pet sitter! She cares for my two cats like they are her own. I never have to worry while I am on vacation/away from home. My cats are on medicated food they need twice a day, so it's a lot of work but Heather comes twice daily to feed them and to clean their litter box. She also makes sure they are loved while I am gone by playing with them and giving them a good brushing. I highly recommend Heather picking Heather as your pet sitter!
