I would usually need to know routines for the walk, treats, leash location as well as dog poop bags and where to dispose of the bags. Also, if applicable, medications, special feeding protocols, and general eccentricities of the animal as they are always helpful to know about before hand! No breed preferences.

Generally, I will come in, say hi to the pup and see their temperament. If they are fearful, I will spend more time trying to relax and get them to come sniff me, if super playful I will calmly play with them but enforce boundaries, especially if too boisterous and try to calm them down before going on the walk. After the walk, and if time permits, I would play with them for a bit more, especially if they seem interested in toys, if not, I will just chill with them and pet them. I usually will also take the time to check up on the state of the house to make sure nothing has happened in my absence and update the owner on the condition of the pet. If cat sitting, I would do the same minus walking (unless the cat is trained to walk! That'd be cool) as well as check the condition of the litterbox and make sure the kitty hasn't been up to any mischeif! I will also play with the toys that might be scattered around or generally give love for a bit.
