My work is mostly remote and part time, meaning my hours are flexible; so long as I check in daily and deal with any tasks in my queue, I’m fairly free to care for dogs in the meantime.

My home is the dog’s home. I’d prefer pets stay off my couch, at least until I know and trust them enough to not make a mess on it. Otherwise, when I am home with them I am very attentive, walking them whenever necessary, keeping constant eye on food and water. For walks, I live on Alameda Point, which has fantastic stretches for walking.

Information Hank K. would like to know about your pet
I’d like to know any health concerns, what they can or can’t eat, how well they are potty trained, and if they’re heat or cold sensitive.
A typical day
If the pets are with me, I’d take them to the small park outside my apartment, or on the mile-long strip on Alameda Point, which is massive and allows for free play.

Lived with dogs almost all my life!
Pet care experience
I got my first dog when I was 10, and even though my family considered her to be the dog from hell, I loved her unconditionally nonetheless. Since moving to California, I’ve rented a room in a house with 5 chihuahuas, then lived with a roommate for 7 years whose dog felt like my own after all that time. I plan to get a puppy next year, and I want to spend as much time with dogs as I can in the meantime!

Reviews

Hank asked a lot of good questions about Sparky, helping is to feel confident that he would be responsive to her needs. She came home happy & settled after her stay. We also appreciated the photos Hank sent - very thoughtful.

Really communicative and attentive to our dog’s signals/needs

Great with our elderly dog, both patient and kind. Thanks for taking the time to get to know Dexter and caring for his elderly needs.

Hank seemed very inquisitive/ responsible and asked a lot of great questions at the meet and greet. I shared with him that my dog is very small and old and didn’t need the full 30 min walk. The loop we walked together took about 16 min (door to door). I also shared with him that Penny is used to going out around lunchtime, as early as 11:15 - 12:30 would be fine. The first week I used him - he was tardy but nothing major. The second week, went as follows: Tuesday, didn’t get her until 1:00 PM. On Wednesday - he said he had to be in the city by 1:00 pm. I said he could come as early as 11:00 am - to accommodate. Didn’t get her until 12:44. Texted me : “ Penny had already pooped on the carpet, so I just took her up to the corner and back to pee”, so apparently him being late - and my dog pooping in my home negated her exercise? And then the final straw occurred on Thursday when he completely forgot my dog altogether and when I messaged him at 1:32 pm (now an hour and half late) he replied : “ Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry! I'm housesitting another dog as well and penny completely slipped my mind. I can be over in 15 minutes if it's still alright”. I said yes of course, because I had already paid and my dog still needed to be let out. He didn’t arrive until 2:05. Claimed he did the full loop - which is 16 min - but somehow finished it by 2:19 pm. Good luck working with Hank in the future. My impression is that he has a full time job (which is fine) but tries to squeeze your dog into their schedule when it works for them.
