For those wondering—yes, I am lucky enough that this is my full-time job! Now onto my qualifications I began caring for animals through my family dogs and childhood parakeet from as far back as I can remember. That quickly escalated to self-taught dog training, to training service dogs. Through this I learned how to read a dog’s body language and care for any dog successfully regardless of their temperament or any behavior that would make others consider them too difficult a case. I began fostering dogs and cats of any age when I was 16, and have fostered almost 1,000 dogs, cats, puppies and kittens. From each one I learned new skills. How to bottle feed and hand-stimulate kittens without mothers, how to recognize and respond to common signs of illness, how to administer oral medications, and many more medical skills, but probably the most important to me was learning how to teach dogs and cats who knew only hard times from the world or bad things about people, to open up and love freely. While I wish all animals had perfect health, unfortunately I don’t have a genie, so I have taken several veterinary classes to make sure I can care for them instead. I can appropriately handle and care for pets of all medical needs, with extensive from my own pets, an asthmatic cat, a dog with epilepsy, another dog with a torn ACL, a since passed on one-eyed cat, and a severely malnourished tortoise rescued from Petsmart, to my bonus fur babies, as I like to call the pets I care for, who have ranged from deaf and/or blind to diabetic or missing limbs. I have had the privilege of loving many animals, my own and others, in their twilight years, leading up to them crossing the rainbow bridge, each of them with the love, respect and care they deserve. I also have experience caring for bearded dragons, and tortoises and knowledge of snake care and experience in their handling, though I don’t have a snake of my own, unfortunately. No pet, dog or cat, scaled or shelled, is too much for me.
