Safety is the first thing I think about with every walk. When I arrive, I double-check that all doors and gates are secure before I bring your dog out, and I make sure the leash and collar or harness are properly fitted before we leave — no slipping out mid-walk. I stick to routes I know well, avoid off-leash areas unless specifically asked, and keep a close eye on other dogs, traffic, and anything that could startle or spook your dog. I always carry water on hot days and adjust the pace or length of the walk based on weather and how your dog is doing that day. Before I leave, I make sure your home is exactly as I found it — doors locked, lights as they were, nothing out of place. If anything ever comes up during a walk, you'll hear from me right away, not after the fact.

A typical day starts with checking in on my scheduled walks for the day, since my own time is flexible enough to build around them rather than squeeze them in. When I arrive at a client's home, I take a few minutes to settle the dog and get them excited for the walk, double-check the leash and harness fit, and head out at a pace that matches their energy level — some dogs want a brisk walk, others prefer a slower, sniff-everything stroll, and I adjust to what they actually want rather than rushing through it. During the walk, I'm paying attention to their body language the whole time, not just watching where we're going, so I can catch if something's bothering them before it becomes a problem. Afterward, I make sure they have water if needed, tidy up before I leave, and send a quick update so you know exactly how things went. Most days I'm moving between a few different walks, with enough flexibility built in that a late start or a longer walk than planned doesn't throw the rest of the day off.
