I'm currently working a full-time job as a Lead Animal Care Technician. I usually work from 6am to 2pm Monday through Friday. I'm usually available after 2pm during the week, so I can provide pet care during the evening/late hours. For the weekends, I'm free all day. It's important to me to be on time and follow a schedule accurately.

Safety, trust & environment

I'm very cautious and careful when caring for someone's pet. I like to start off with a slow introduction so they don't feel anxious about our first impression of each other. I want them to be comfortable with me and be able to trust me. I'm very gentle when it comes to physical touch and speaking at first. I talk a lot so they can get used to my voice.

Information Gilbert A. would like to know about your pet

I would like to know if the cat/dog has any special needs. It's important to know as much information as possible in order to make our time together comfortable. Is the cat/dog on any medication? Is the cat/dog disabled or has past injuries to be aware of? It's important to know what can stress out the cat/dog in order to avoid it.

A typical day

I usually like to take dogs to different areas every time we walk together. It's fun to explore different parts of the neighborhood and mixing up every walk. Walking different routes can motivate a dog to explore more and get familiar with the surrounding areas. When it comes to cats, playing with toys usually helps with the bonding process. Most of the cats I have cared for, love attention and receiving pets.

Pet care is about bonding and trust

Pet care experience

I've worked with dogs for several years. My main experience with dogs is when I was a supervisor at a dog daycare. We worked with dogs of various sizes and personalities. I've seen good and bad things happen many times. Some days were unpredictable, for example dogs would get into an altercation or suddenly get sick. The ability to solve problems quickly and remain calm was very important. At this daycare we provided training for dogs, gave baths and learned how to trim nails. Patience and building trust were skills that I developed with time. I felt accomplished when I saw dogs comfortable around me. That experience made me love animals and value the time I spend with them. Learning about their different personalities and temperament really opened my eyes on how to approach and interact with animals in general. Besides working with dogs, I've also worked with cats. I've had friends and family rely on me to pet sit while they were away on vacation. Drop in visits, feedings, litter box cleaning , taking pictures and playing were all things I did with their cats. My wife and I have 2 cats, aged 11 and 2. Our cats are very sweet and playful. Cats can be unpredictable when compared to dogs. I'm very cautious when meeting new cats. I try my best to make sure they are comfortable and not stressed by my presence. Using toys to interact and play is a way I like to build trust with cats.

Working with Gilbert is always such a pleasure! I’ve been working with him for almost three years now, and I feel super comfortable with him — he’s great at communicating, flexible, and takes great care of my two cats when he comes.

Gilbert is THE BEST - he is so genuine and calm, responsive and is so thorough with his visits, pictures, and recaps. There is not a stone unturned or question unanswered. Our Bucky was throwing up a bit while we were away but his last recap put our minds at ease with his descriptions of big improvements. He always brought in our packages and watered the plants! We appreciate you so much for taking care of our kids especially on Christmas. Thank you so much!
