I own a German Shepherd and a Cockapoo, and I have experience handling and caring for a wide variety of breeds, including Springer Spaniels, Border Collie crosses, Staffordshire Bull Terriers, Yorkshire Terriers, Vizslas, Dachshunds, Bernese Mountain Dogs and Cavapoos. This has given me hands-on experience with a varied range of breeds, sizes, ages, temperaments and exercise needs — from smaller companion breeds through to larger, high-energy working breeds. I’m comfortable adapting my approach to the individual dog rather than expecting every dog to fit the same type of walk. My approach is about much more than simply getting the miles in. I believe walks should provide appropriate structure, enrichment, exploration and engagement, while being tailored to the individual dog’s personality, confidence, age, fitness and needs. I have a particular interest in canine behaviour and training and am continuing to develop my knowledge through formal canine courses. Safety, transparency and owner reassurance are central to the way I work. Every dog in my care is provided with a Find My-compatible tracking device during their walk as an additional safety measure and for added peace of mind. I also wear a body camera while walking. As well as providing an additional layer of safety and reassurance, this allows me to capture occasional clips of dogs enjoying their walks and, where relevant, examples of training, engagement and progress that can be shared with their owners. Owners can expect regular updates from their dog’s adventures, so you don’t simply have to take my word for how their walk went — you can see some of it for yourself. I’m building The Canine Custodian around a simple principle: treating every dog in my care as an individual and providing the same level of care, attention and responsibility I’d expect for my own.
