Living with animals since I was small, I recognise that they all have their own unique personalities and share many similarities with humans – I see animals as 'people' in their own right, while at the same time fully respecting that their needs and perspectives can be very different to those of humans and require careful understanding. With this in mind, I work closely with you and your pet to ensure they’re happy, comfortable, safe and reassured while you’re away, as well as mentally and physically stimulated, enriched and well cared for. My goal is for your pet to really enjoy the sit and feel like they’ve had a treat as well! I’ve always been involved with caring for animals in some capacity – as a teenager I volunteered at a cat sanctuary on weekend mornings, and over the years have looked after dogs, cats, and other pets for friends, family, and trusted pet owners. I currently live with an excitable Jack Russell named Pip (who stays back at home during sits!) and I really enjoy getting to know and becoming friends with the pets I spend time with. I also understand that your pet may have unique needs, may need help with behavioural challenges or thrive when they have extra reassurance, and I provide a friendly, calm atmosphere and plenty of praise and reassurance (I’m a big believer in positive reinforcement and being pro-active in offering praise and recognition). I am: • Trained in Advanced First Aid for Pets (Level 3 VTQ), including CPR (see my pictures for full details) • DBS checked: My certificate ID is P0005RTBVTQ • Self-employed, meaning your pet is not left home alone for any extended period while you’re away • A volunteer teacher – meaning that inclusivity and recognising and meeting differing needs are always front of mind. Before the sit, please feel free to ask for a copy of all certificates for your records.

Safety, trust & environment
When looking after your pet in your home, I’m happy to work to whatever routine or schedule you usually keep. Some animals need more attention than others and some like extra space to accept you into their home on their own terms, and I’m very happy to work with you to understand your pet’s needs and make sure they are happy and comfortable at all times. Communication is important, and I will provide you with regular updates and pics throughout the stay about how they’re getting on and what we’re up to. Meet and greets: I always offer a complimentary meet and greet before you book so your pets can get to know me and feel at ease ahead of the sit. I’ll travel to you and we can discuss any requirements you have. One-off walks: I understand that ahead of the sit it can offer some peace of mind to have an extra walk or meetup in between, particularly if you have booked well in advance. If you have booked a sit I am happy to arrange an additional walk or walks at a standard rate (£22 for up to an hour, plus £6.50 per half an hour travel time on public transport). This will be added automatically to the sit via Rover. I live in South Liverpool next to two gorgeous big parks – Princes Park and Sefton Park – so if preferred am also more than happy to offer walks and meet-ups here too. :)

Gemma looked after my two dogs at quite short notice and was absolutely fantastic from start to finish. She was quick and efficient with her replies, came to meet them beforehand, and was so flexible with our timings, which made everything so much easier. She stayed at our home for a week, and I came back to a spotless house, daily photo updates, and two very happy dogs! She spent most of her time with them, so they were hardly ever left alone, walked them daily and it was clear they adored her company. Usually, I feel quite apprehensive going away, but this time I felt completely relaxed knowing they were so well cared for. I would definitely book Gemma again without hesitation! Gemma came to visit us before looking after Loki, we all liked her immediately, especially Loki! She has kept us fully informed throughout our trip, sending videos, photos and messages. Our furbaby couldn't have been in better hands. Would absolutely recommend Gemma 💯

Gemma was amazing with our 2 dogs. She accepted the request last minute even though we were quite far away and was fast to respond and agree all details. The dogs seemed like they had the best time including plenty of play, walks and affection. We received plenty of lovely updates and we would love Gemma to look after our dogs in the future.

Schedule
I’m a translator and have worked from home for around 10 years, 7 of those with our Jack Russell Pip at home. :) On days when I’m pet sitting, I tend to work reduced hours and my schedule is generally flexible, so I can make time to give fuss and attention and have a play throughout the day. I’ll often get a nudge or (cute!) growl from my own dog when he wants some attention, so am used to sharing my day with a mini companion!
