We love to love your fur-babies!!
Gary and I both love cats and dogs. We have so much love & affection to share with your animal(s). We’ve been on Rover now for 4 years now and though Gary was the original face of our profile, both of us take care & love of your dogs in our home. This past year we added taking care of cats in your home. It is a true treat to love your fur-babies. Gary grew up on a farm so he is very comfortable around animals. Barbara, had many dogs as a youth and beloved cats all her life. Dogs and cats have always been a huge part of our lives, and although we don't currently pets in our household, we love to share our unconditional love with your fur-baby. We have taken care of both cats and dogs with special needs including administering daily medications for diabetic cats and an IBS dog. It is very important to us to help in the care of special needs. We board social dogs here at our home and our backyard is large! One of our favorite things to do is to take the dogs out for a walk at the off-leash dog park close by! Do not despare if your pup isn't an off leash dog as we have many great parks in and around our neighbourhood for good walks with lots of good scents for your dog to enjoy! I am so impressed with how Barbara and Gary took care of my diabetic dog, Mookie. They did an amazing job keeping her sugar levels well managed throughout her stay. Mookie seemed so relaxed, happy, and comfortable, and it was wonderful to know she even had some friends to play with. I am so happy with her experience that I have already booked long term care with Gary and Barbara for when I’m traveling. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for trustworthy and compassionate care for their pets.
Barbara has been amazing, caring for our most beloved cat. I can’t say enough good things! She’s reliable, caring, thoughtful - we felt so reassured having her to look after things while we were away, and have come home to a very contented and well care-for cat.
Barb and Gary saved us by agreeing to take care of our two little frenchies for our summer vacation, and they were WONDERFUL. They sent great updates so we didn’t worry, and we could tell they took incredible care of our babies. They were also so calm and helpful when our return travel plans were interrupted, and made sure the dogs were happy and cared for until we could make it home to them. Actually our oldest dog, Olive, would have preferred to stay at their house we think - she was smitten with them! We will absolutely ask them to sit for us again, we couldn’t be happier 😊
Gary and Barbara were wonderful with our pup Slater when he stayed with them for a week. He was very well loved, taken for lots of adventures and came back happy and healthy. We got tons of updates and great pictures, which put our mind at ease right away. You can tell they love animals and we would definitely trust them again with our fur baby. Thank you Gary and Barbara!
Captain was so happy when he got pick up. We got photos and videos, and he seems very comfortable the entire stay. I am booking again for my next vacation:)

Schedule
Barbara is self employed, so this is a great opportunity for some flexibility to take care of your dog or cat in the daytime. As you see in our photos, if your pet comes to my house I won't kennel your dog, unless that is their norm, they can be free to roam around the main floor.

Safety, trust & environment
For dogs coming into our home, we have an excellent fenced yard for small to medium sized dogs. We allow dogs to feel safe and comfortable. At night we have several options. They can sleep in the spare room, on the main floor or in their bed beside us at night if they prefer. We take your dog for a walk during the day and enjoy each others company.
A typical day
There is an off-leash park near our home where we can go play, run around, play fetch etc. We also like to take more challenging walks along the river, or walk up the river west of Bowness park for a little more adventure and to get a breath of fresh air in the forest. Throughout the day, we like to find a healthy mix of work-play so we're not sitting on my butt all day and your pet will get regular attention with short spurts of of play time with regular bathroom breaks.

- For us it is important to understand the dogs temperament and level of comfort around other dogs so we can understand if they can be part of an acceptable social structure or not in off-leash areas. Let us know about your dogs activity level, and any health or medical issues. Most importantly, what makes your dog happy? How can we help your dog have a more enjoyable day so they can wag their tail like crazy when you see them next.
