I've had dogs my whole life — three dachshunds, a Plott hound, a Sheltie, an Australian shepherd, and a Maltese — and I'm between dogs right now, which is exactly why I'm on here. I miss the daily walk, the mailbox sniffing, the face at the door. That mix of breeds taught me a lot. Dachshunds showed me how to be patient with a dog who has strong opinions about which direction we're going. The Plott hound taught me to keep a firm, calm hand on the leash when a scent takes over. The Sheltie and the Aussie taught me that some dogs need to feel like they're working, even on a neighborhood loop. And the Maltese reminded me that small dogs still want a real walk, not a carry.
