Pet care experience

Animal Behavior Student

I have been working professionally with animals since early 2025, starting with dog walking and house sitting before exploring more about dog behavior and providing care that is behaviorally conscious. In that time, I have cared for dogs of a wide range of personalities, needs, and behavioral histories, multiple cats at once, and some birds. I work with or study animals every single day. In about a year's worth of time, I have spent over 5,000 hours actively developing myself in this career. I really put all of my time and effort into what I enjoy. Beyond direct client work, I volunteer at a local animal rescue where I work with dogs in a kennel environment; this includes a large amount and variety of dogs, rehab cases, and many situations that require reading behavior quickly with limited context. I have ongoing mentorship with experienced dog trainers that I work alongside regularly. Their experiences shared with me range from search and rescue, medical alert service work, sports, and everyday behavior modification. I practice the skills I learn and keep detailed notes about all aspects of my work. This reflects how I approach every booking, whether initially outlined to be simple or more complex. My background before pet care is in communication-focused jobs and working with people. I have done swim instruction, lifeguarding, tutoring, and cafe work. That experience carries over directly into how I talk with clients and work through any goals together. Shy, reactive, anxious, elderly, medically complex, or behaviorally challenging animals are welcome. For experiences that are challenging or unfamiliar, I am very motivated to learn and improve. I am Pet CPR certified. -Logistics- Prior to all first bookings, I require: - An intake form to be filled out - An introductory phone call - An in-person consultation that will be charged by my drop-in rate My house sitting rate reflects a base rate of 2 hours worth of active work. Active work may include: feeding routine, administering medication, play, specific training exercises, walking, cleaning, outdoor adventures, etc. Passive work may include: potty breaks, basic maintenance of behavior, basic housekeeping, cuddling, etc. - All of my services are customizable. - Walks and drop-ins are different levels of work, walks introducing a higher level of behavioral complexity and safety risks. - Generally, I will not offer 60/min walks. I consider my session started when I've parked at your location. Factors outside my control that add to that time such as gate codes, parking procedures, and building access, are counted as part of the booking.

Safety, trust & environment

Before any booking, I want to understand how your pet communicates, what makes them comfortable, and what doesn't. The in-person meeting before a first booking is where I get information I can't get from a form, and where your pet gets to meet me in a context that is more neutral. Both of those things directly affect how the care goes. Depending on your dog's behavior, I may ask for specific setups before the first meeting—examples include: - Meeting one dog at a time - Having a leash on - Delaying direct interaction until arousal levels are lowered My usefulness to you and your pet depends on being honest about what a situation actually calls for. If there are behaviors that cause some conflict in your daily lifestyle or how care might go, we can discuss that. I will not accept bookings in which the work I am requested to do will reinforce unsafe or otherwise unhealthy behavior.

Schedule

I work and study every day, so my schedule is built around animal care all the time. I am most consistently booked midday weekdays for dog walking and those would be my least available times. I drive far and wide, so give me a time range rather than a fixed minute and I can make it work. The more lead time you give me, the easier it is to build your booking into my schedule well. I'm open to last-minute bookings if the relevant information has been discussed and documented. Cancellations and adjustments can be discussed.

My intake form will ask about behavior in different contexts, medical conditions, daily routine, and more. I want as much context as possible before we meet. The more context I can get about a pet's lifestyle and behavior, the better I can do my job. I won't confirm a booking until I feel we've covered enough to do the work well.
Each sitter joining Rover needs to pass a background check. And by booking on Rover, you can get photo & message updates, 24/7 support, and reimbursement for eligible vet care.
