Pet care experience

Caring human w/ love for animals <3

I connect with animals easily, and have had dogs all my life. From rambunctious Golden Retrievers to timid shelter dogs with anxiety, I've lived with them all. I spent almost 3 years working at Trupanion pet insurance in Seattle, a company dedicated to protecting pets from medical euthanasia through accident and illness insurance, surrounded by dogs and cats in a Seattle office and learning about pet health and medical treatments. I know what to look out for in terms of risky behavior and how to keep pets safe-- my schedule means that I set my own hours on certain days and when I mark myself as available, I can (and want to) spend a lot of time with your pet. I stay overnights when house sitting and really love the time I get to spend with pets in their own space. My dog (Italian greyhound in the profile photo) passed away in 2018, and after that loss I've been looking for more dog time in my life. I have a very caring and calm/ positive style so dogs love me back. I have experience with dogs of all ages and abilities. <3

Safety, trust & environment

I am no longer offering boarding, but am happy to take care of your pets in their familiar environment. I have found that pets are more happy in their own homes, and I am clean/ trustworthy, and can take them on walks they are familiar with. If you are far out of my radius or if your pet requires intensive training and continuous exercise on a regimented schedule, we may not be the best fit. However, if you are looking for someone to give your pet comfort, praise, and take them on two walks a day or play fetch with them in the backyard, I can play with them and we can enjoy each other's company.

Emma stayed with my 2 Corgis over the 4th of July weekend. I am very happy with the way she took care of the dogs, respected my house and communicated with me during her stay. She is very loving and caring and actually listens and pays attention to the animals. Petsitting is not as simple as some might think. It's more than sleeping at a place and throwing a bowl of food to the pets. You actually need to pay attention to the animals to understand their needs and communicate them to their owners. Unfortunately, petsitting has become a fad lately and a lot of people that are not very pet savvy do this work, resulting in less than average service. I've had horrible experiences with petsitters, both from this site and people that were recommended from friends. So I was very relieved to finally find a person that can do the work AND communicate. This is a new neighborhood and the first time the pets would be spending 4th of July here, so i didnt know how bad the fireworks would be. Emma made sure to ask how the dogs are typically with fireworks so she knew what to expect. She freed her self of other obligations for that day so she didn't have to leave them at all. And the whole time she was sending me updates and asking questions as she was observing their behavior. I'm really happy with the work she did. I will definitely have her stay with my dogs again.

Emma was such a love. My dog instantly took to her. She sent hilarious photos of him Playing and cute ones of cuddle time. Even though he’s a mama’s boy our dog he still went to her to say goodbye. She followed instructions to a T. We hope to have her back again !

Schedule

I often write and read/ work from home and will need to go to my campus office occasionally or hold meetings outside of the home. I also teach online and in person generally. While I am often home, I will need to be able to come and go as needed during the day for grocery shopping, medical appointments, and professional events. That being said, I usually am a home body with internet and some animals. Let me know your preferences in terms of scheduling, but also realize that I cannot be there 24/7 every day of the stay, especially for long term stays.

I would like to know energy levels before sitting. Since my work schedule is always changing, sometimes I have time and desire for many excursions and high energy levels, and sometimes I need to be reading on the couch. Italian greyhounds, whippets, and sight hounds are my specialty, but I also love Great Danes, retrievers, mixed breeds, and special needs pups. Since I live in an apartment, I'd prefer dogs for drop offs that are house trained and don't have urinary issues. I would like to know if you have pet insurance and who your vet is, emergency contact info, veterinary preferences, etc. in case there is any need for a vet visit (very unlikely, but always helps to be safe). Any behavioral idiosyncrasies are helpful to know so that I can give them the best experience possible and avoid triggering them or causing any additional stress.
Each sitter joining Rover needs to pass a background check. And by booking on Rover, you can get photo & message updates, 24/7 support, and reimbursement for eligible vet care.
