Dog Adventures and Care

I have cared for animals for many years, with a background working at veterinary clinics, wildlife rehab centers, dog training and more. I am now focusing on providing high quality dog adventures and training! My goal is to help get some of your pups energy out, while also working on any skills you need. I love to walk, hike, run and even bike with dogs, as well as create enrichment opportunities to bring energy levels back down. I strive to create a strong, positive relationship with every dog I meet, and I am comfortable handling reactive dogs, too! I will also help teach you how to have more fun outings with your dogs, since we often expect a lot from our adventure buddies. If you have a high energy dog that needs to let out some steam, and want to foster a more positive relationship with your pooch, I am there to help!

Emma was amazing! It was our first time using Rover and she made us feel at ease, had great communication, and sent us pics and videos to let us know everything was okay! We will definitely use her again!

When we first determined that our adopted Red Heeler, "Cheddar" was seriously reactive to other dogs, it was a bit overwhelming. The combination of a dog breed that needs to get a lot of exercise and the risk of injuries to other dogs gave us pause. We were used to getting out on the trail and, with good good recall control, giving our dogs a good run. This seemed like it would no longer be an option because of the risk. Fortunately, we connected with Emma Lustig (via a social media site for reactive dogs) and engaged with her to help us out. She offered one-on-one work which was key for us because our guy had unique responses to his environment. Emma's approach was twofold. First, she wanted to assess the behavior. Close observation was key and there are signals beyond the more commonly known ones that Emma pointed out. For instance, in a distant parallel walking setting, Emma pointed out that Cheddar's signals were dependent on whether or not he was upwind of the other dog. Then, Emma worked with us to set up specific situations where problems might occur. Getting in and out of cars, for instance. Or short walks in the neighborhood. Emma also had a lot of valuable information about the need to stimulate dogs' brains as well as exercising their muscles to keep them balanced. Sniff work and "find it" in the backyard are examples. With all this information applied in a positive way, we are able to have a reasonable life with a reactive dog. We highly recommend Emma's work.

Emma is a skilled dog walker and dog trainer. Her dog adventures provide a great outlet for higher energy dogs, and dogs that don't love daycare settings. She is observant, understanding and communicative, and is great at finding activities that suit your dogs needs and abilities. We highly recommend her!

Emma is sweet, kind, and knowledgeable with her dog friends. She has been helping us with our great dane puppy. Training and teaching the owner and the dog. 5 paws out of 5 paws.

I first met Emma when she needed a dog to help with reactive training for her Jasper. We got together several times and I could see that she was very knowledgeable about care and training for dogs. We worked through the training, and after several sessions we continued to do dog walks. She has a very special way with dogs and has been a big help to me and my Mabel. I would trust her with my Mabel, and I have seen her interact with other dogs and their owners. She is personable and responsible. I believe a great asset to Rover!

Calendar and availability

Schedule

I work mostly from home, with occasional days in the office. I have the ability to let your dog out during the day for a potty break! For walks and drop in visits, I am able to help before 7am and in the evening after about 4pm.

Safety, trust & environment

I am very diligent about ensuring that doors are closed, leashes and collars/harnesses are hooked up properly, and I utilize long lines in safe areas to allow dogs more freedom in a safe way. I understand some dogs do not want to greet other dogs, people or other animals, and do not allow unwanted greetings while outside. In the home, if your dog has special restrictions such as they can't have certain toys or foods, or need to be prevented from counter surfing, I am familiar with managing dogs environments so they can't get themselves into trouble.

A typical day

I love being active, and love taking dogs out on adventures with me even more! I can run, hike, bike and provide mental enrichment to satisfy your dogs needs. During the day, if your dog is staying with me, they will be kept separate from my two dogs unless we have established time prior to your dogs stay for them to get to know each other. I use baby gates, ex-pens, separate rooms and crates as necessary.

I enjoy meeting your dog first prior to a first visit (I don't charge for this), so I can get to know your dog and what you are expecting from our outings. I am comfortable working with more challenging dogs too, and am great at following any specific instructions you have for your particular dog. If your dog is staying with me, please let me know about any separation or confinement challenges, their comfort level with new dogs/new people, any special restrictions, medications, etc.
Each sitter joining Rover needs to pass a background check. And by booking on Rover, you can get photo & message updates, 24/7 support, and reimbursement for eligible vet care.
